Until I joined the Eleven Moms, I had no idea what Twilight was. Now I’m hearing about it everywhere! And I’m told I must read the books, which I’m slightly embarrassed to admit I haven’t even cracked open yet.
Despite my lack of knowledge, Twilight fans everywhere are excited, because the release of Twilight on DVD happens on March 21! And since Twilight is such a big phenomenon, Walmart and the Eleven Moms are celebrating in a big way!
Walmart has set up a very special Twilight page, complete with a countdown to the release of the Twilight DVD. You can also find links to the books, the soundtrack, and an application where you can send an e-bite to someone special.
As if that weren’t enough, fellow 11mom Amy Clark from Mom Advice will be interviewing Taylor Lautner (the actor who plays Jacob in the Twilight movie) on Blog Talk Radio tonight (3/9/09)! The show starts at 9 p.m EST/6 p.m. PST, so if you’re not listening to Frugal Coast2Coast (8:30/5:30) you can catch the interview. The good news is that archives of both shows will be available, so you can listen to one live and the other later.
But back to the subject of Twilight. There’s more. Several of the Eleven Moms, including me, are doing special Twilight giveaways! I’m going to be giving away a Twilight prize package worth $150!
The package will include things like the Twilight DVD, one of the Twilight books, a t-shirt, and more! The contents of the prize package may not be exactly what’s in the picture, but it will be similar.
To enter, all you have to do is leave a comment on this post, letting me know what you liked best about the Twilight series. If you haven’t read the books yet, tell me what intrigues you about the series.
Please only one comment per person, as duplicates will be deleted. This contest will be open until Friday, March 20 at noon. I’ll draw a winner using a random number generator. The winner will be notified that day, and I’ll announce it here on the blog soon after.
I’m looking forward to seeing what you like about the series!

I haven’t read the series yet, but my friend is reading it. She’s also discussing it with her granddaughter. I’m just curious about the whole series. I’ll probably add it to my long list of books to read.

I haven’t read the books or seen the movie, but I’ve heard there are some pretty cute vampires in it.
I’d give this prize pack to my friend’s daughter who is a huge Twilight fan & told me everything I needed to know about the series.

I have read all four books, and they were amazing. The books are so well written that a person can get completely get caught up in the lives of the characters and feel like you are actually there. While they may be intended for a teen/young adult audience, they have a much larger appeal. I am 33 and was able to relate to the characters, and many of my friends have said the same thing! There are many smaller points to the stories on which I would love to comment, but I don’t want to ruin the fun for those of you who have yet to read the books. Once you pick up the first one, don’t plan on doing ANYTHING else until you finish book four. You will be amazed at how fast you read them, mainly because you cannot bear to set the book down!!

I have not read these books. So, naturally, I wonder what all the hooplah is about. I am sure my 13 year old granddaughter would love to have this though. I know she will let me read the books too. Thanks.

I loved the daydream aspect of the Twilight books (I have read them all). It’s a dreamy, romantic fairy-tale story! For both teens and adults.
March 9th, 2009 at 6:13 pm
Wow, I can’t even begin to explain how much I love the series. I have read the books at least 8 times each, and saw the movie about 5 times, haha. It’s just an amazing story, and I’m so glad that it has become as big as it is.

I tweeted and sent it along, Read all 4 books with my daughter, very good for juvenile romance fiction. She is obsessed and plays the musical score on her piano.

I love the romance in the series. Against all odds, this young couple are drawn together.
March 9th, 2009 at 10:26 pm
I think that what drew me to the story is the deep love of Edward and Bella; someone who is totally devoted to you..forever. I also think that every young girl wants to think she’s “special” and not only does Edward think Bella is special, she really is special.
I just finished the last book but I didn’t get a chance to see the movie in theaters; I’m so anxious for the dvd to come out. My daughter and I plan to watch it over and over again.
March 10th, 2009 at 5:15 am
I think I’m one of the few who has NOT read any of the books….yet. My neighbor’s daughter told me about this book when it first came out but at that time I was still catching up w/ the Harry Potter’s series (yes, I am a sloooowww reader).
I think what intrigues me about this series is like the Harry Potter books, it is encouraging everyone to READ. As a school teacher I gotta love that. I want to read it to learn what the hype is all about.

twilight is just a fireball of all the different human emotions and aspects of life…it really captivates what it would be like to be different from your lover if one of you was condemned to live forever without choice because you could not die, and one of you was going to eventually die…and what you could or couldn’t do to change that, and once you decided to make the other one like that there was not turning back cause neither is reversible fixings…the decision you would have to make and how when you are so in love with someone…that thought of living together forever with them definitely crosses your mind as something you wish could happen…it just is constantly exploring the different elements and aspects of real love and thats why i love it so mu h because it is universal to all living and non living creatures.

I love that I get totally lost in the books. I love that it’s something I share with all my friends and we could talk about Edward and Jacob all day. I love pg 87.
March 10th, 2009 at 3:33 pm
I would love to win this giveaway, because I too have not read the book or seen the movie. I’m a junior high teacher and most of my students are huge fans. I would like to see what all the fuss is about and use the some the of the giveaway as prizes for my students. Thank you for the opportunity.

Okay, here it goes…
I’m obsessed with the entire Twilight Saga, hahah.
I’ve read each book over twelve times now. I’ve seen the movie thirty-seven times in theaters, including the opening night midnight showing. I’ve got both CD’s, and I’ve preordered my 3 disk deluxe edition of the DVD.
I’m always daydreaming about the books or the characters. It’s so easy to lose yourself in the books. I got butterflies every time I read about Edward Cullen in Twilight, I bawled my eyes out when he left in New Moon, and again when he came back. I fell in love with him completely in Eclipse, and when they finally had Renesme in Breaking Dawn, and lived through what I thought was going to be the end of their existence, I bawled my eyes out yet again.
Twilight is just the perfect romance novel for everyone. No matter how old you are, where you live, what you do, if you take the time to read it, you definitely don’t regret it.

Growing up I watched all the vampire, werewolf, frankenstein and dracula movies. I am still a fan. I especially love all the black and white vampire movies. I have heard once you start reading these books, you are hooked. I can’t wait.
March 10th, 2009 at 11:51 pm
My favourite things are the different special powers some of the vampire characters have, that’s pretty interesting. I liked the Volturi parts even though they’re kind of the bad guys.
March 11th, 2009 at 2:23 am
I liked the perfect balance of fantasy and reality in the Twilight series. There was enough reality that I could relate to the characters emotions and actions, but there was enough fantasy to keep me sucked into the story at all times. The fantasy brought life to the mundane task of living everyday life.
March 12th, 2009 at 12:16 pm
The series includes a supernatural romantic cast of characters in an fairy tale world with a splash of reality…Twists in plots followed by teenage drama….a great read and a wonderful change of pace from the normal …

I’m dying to read the twilight books! BUT I’m #465 on the waiting list at the library, so I’m not holding my breath
March 12th, 2009 at 12:48 pm
Haven’t read these books yet, but I love a good series and this one looks great! Read Ann Rice vampire books years ago, scared me to death and had to stop reading them when I had kids….kids are grown, ready to take the vampires on again!!
March 12th, 2009 at 4:27 pm
My favorite thing about the books is Jacob. I love Jacob!

I wasn’t really all that intrigued about the books, although I did take notice when I started seeing a lot of people that I worked with carrying the same books around and lending them to each other.
But then the movie came out and it was everywhere, I have to say that I’m now intensly curious.
March 12th, 2009 at 10:23 pm
I agree with Melissa shes 33 well i am 52 and wow ! great books and yes I read them all also. I am most intriged with the last book, I don’t want to give away anything about it for those who haven’t read it yet.
I would like to try to get the whole set for my grandkids when they are old enough to read them.
And yea Jacob is my fav also Molly.
I kind of got irritated with Bella at times alot of drama with her, but she turned out to be okay later in the other books.

A group of my internet friends had recommended that I read these books, at first I wasn’t interested in reading them because honestly as a mom of six I didn’t have the time for it. Then one day, my oldest son asked if I had heard of them and if he could read them. This is when I decided to read them because I had heard there were a few sexual areas in the books and I didn’t want my children to reading them if that was true.
Anyway, I loved the books because I found the easy to follow but most of all they didn’t promote sex before marriage. I have read all of them and enjoyed talking about them with my oldest son.

Oh the love story is so wonderful in the Twilight series and who doesn’t love a good romance. But they are also so much more. I mean the relationship between Jacob and Bella is wonderful and heartbreaking at the same time. I read all of the books within a 2 week period and saw the movie once but I really want to see the movie again and again LOL.
Thanks so much!

I have not read the books yet. My daughter and I are on the waiting lists at our libraries. It is obvious these are really popular books. We can’t wait to read!!
March 13th, 2009 at 11:20 am
What I like about the Twilght series is it is first book I have ever seen my tween daughter thoroughly enjoy and read completely, she has read all of the books. We went to see the movie together and it was a great time we spent together without any drama from her. What I likd about the movie is I know it is a fantsy story but think about how many young girls actually picked up a book and read it completely.

Please consider me entered in your fabulous contest!
I saw Twilight in the stores and really wanted to read it, but hadn’t heard anything about it. Before I knew what hit me, it seemed like everyone I knew had read all 4 books and could not stop talking about them, so I bought Twilight and cracked the cover. I loved it so much that I HAD to buy New Moon by the time I got to the middle of Twilight because I knew I could never stand for a lapse in books! I’m reading N.M. very slowly now b/c I can’t afford to buy Eclipse just yet (and want to wait for it to come on paperback so it’s uniform with the other two books!)
I love reading this series because it is very easy to get lost in. I can actaully picture Forks, WA… what it’s like to live there, the people, what the characters are like, etc. This is a testament to the writing of Stephenie Meyer!
March 13th, 2009 at 10:18 pm
I read all four books this past summer and fell in love with the story. It may not be the greatest book series or amazing pieces of literature, but the story line really drew me in. I had to know what was going to happen next. It was an addiction. Even now that the series is over, I find myself missing my “Twilight fix.” I think the best part of the books, though, for me, was reading about the relationship between Bella and Edward. There’s something irresistible about the Romeo and Juliet storyline, isn’t there?
It makes me feel good inside to see something work out for characters who seem so real…minus the vampire stuff… Bella is a typical teenager who has problems that many teens face in real life. The core of the characters themselves, their personalities, aren’t fantasy things that are unattainable. It’s easy to identify with the characters because they are very human in a modern time. It’s a great series and I don’t think I could ever pick just one thing about the books that I like.
I don’t care if Stephanie Meyer isn’t a good gramatician (someone good with grammar). Her stories are amazing.
March 14th, 2009 at 9:27 am
I would love to read this series. We never buy books and rarely go to the movies due to budget constraints. It would be nice to have a chance to read and see what everyone is talking about.
March 15th, 2009 at 11:11 am
I haven’t read the series but very curious about the characters and why they are so popular
March 15th, 2009 at 2:18 pm
I havent read the books YET but I saw the movie and LOVED it. I love the romantic plot and all of the details they show in the lives of the characters.
March 15th, 2009 at 2:48 pm
I haven’t read the series yet but I’m intrigued by the characterization of the heroine as this smart, serious, level-headed girl. Plus, gotta love those vampires!
March 15th, 2009 at 9:22 pm
I haven’t read the book but I have seen the movie. My daughter tells me the movie was a bit different from the book. I did like the movie because it kept you intrigued and was somewhat different from most of the movies out today!
March 16th, 2009 at 8:29 pm
I went to the Twilight movie with my daughter. She is a huge fan and has read all the books. I have started the Twilight series and I really like it too. I really like the love story between Edward and Bella. Thanks for the chance to win!
March 17th, 2009 at 10:44 am
I read all 4 books in 2 weeks! I absolutely fell in love with the characters (particularly the infamous Edward Cullen) and the story line. I just saw the movie this past weekend and while I thought is was okay (some of the characters weren’t as I expected and I didn’t think the actors who portrayed Bella and Edward showed the extreme connection that was evident in the books), I want to read the series all over again!
March 18th, 2009 at 2:17 am
I think I liked these books cause the characters were so likeable and it was a different kind of vampire story than the usual run-of-the-mill vampire books! I loved the books, especially the last one!

I just started reading the saga and I love the characters! I like the vampire details, but how the story is also true to the “teenage” love theme. It’s a fun read for sure! This prize looks awesome and I so hope that I win!! Thanks!

I never really understood the appeal of the Twilight series to everyone – I always figured it was simply another product of the promotional/consumer machine. a-la ‘hey everyone, check out this AMAZINGLY POPULAR SERIES’.
