Wasn’t Superbowl XLIV a great game yesterday? At the last minute, I decided to root for New Orleans, but I didn’t think they’d pull it off. Much to my surprise, they did! It was an exciting game to the end, and it was great to see the underdog win!
The 2010 Superbowl commercials were lots of fun yesterday, too! At 2.6 million dollars per 30 second commercial, brands wanted to make sure they grabbed your attention! After all, that’s a lot of money, and there’s a lot of competition.
I watched the Superbowl from start to finish yesterday, and I managed to catch all the ads. Did anyone notice that there seemed to be a trend in ads featuring men wearing underwear? What was up with that?
I narrowed down my top Superbowl XLIV commercial picks to just 5, but it was hard.
My Top Five 2010 Superbowl Commercials
Email and RSS subscribers my have to click through to view videos.
1. Doritos. A guy teases a dog wearing a bark collar, by waving a Dorito in front of the dog’s face and telling him to speak. The dog gets his revenge in the end.
2. Snickers. The motto? “You’re not you when you’re hungry.” The premise? A guy plays football like Betty White. Why this commercial made my top 5? Seeing Betty White play football with a bunch of jocks was hysterical!
3. Bud Light. The house made of Bud Light was brilliant, from a creative standpoint! And the guy incredulously saying, “There’s Bud Light in the fridge made of Bud Light!” was pretty funny.
4. Kia. Five children’s toys take off in a Kia Sorento for a little adventure. And what adventure is complete until a sock monkey gets a tattoo?
5. Hyundai. Hyundai had a little fun with Brett Favre in this commercial. It’s set 10 years into the future with Brett Favre accepting the MVP award and trying to answer the age old question…will this be the year he retires?
My 2010 Superbowl Commercial Biggest Loser
One commercial, actually it was two from the same company, stands out as the loser of the night. My biggest loser award goes to the GoDaddy commercials. They’re the same every year. Insert Danica Patrick into a scene, talk about being a GoDaddy girl, and follow with a woman ripping her shirt open to reveal a tight-fitting GoDaddy tank top. Maybe it’s just me, but I’d prefer a little less cleavage and a little more originality.
If you missed the Superbowl commercials yesterday, you can find most of them at Forbes.com.

I, too, loved the Doritos spots. “Don’t touch my mom, don’t touch my Doritos” :) Betty White was great! The godaddy commercials are aimed specifically at men, which I feel is sad because in the world of blogs women dominate and are looking more and more everyday to switch over to their own site hosting and not a free service (such as blogger/wordpress) in order to firmly entrench their ‘branding’ So in my opinion GoDaddy is just out of touch with who, I believe, their target market should be.
Right before the game started, there was a McDonald’s commercial with LeBron James and Dwight Howard, recreating the “nothing but net” commercials. It even has a cameo by Larry Bird!

I didn’t see that one originally, but I like it!!! I have always liked Larry Bird!!
I liked the Google commercial the best. It held my attention better than any of the others.
I was disappointed in the anti-female angle of so many of the ads. It was like the advertisers didn’t know women do watch football.
The google ad was so touching. I actually said “awww” at the end.
Google captivated me – very different and innovated.
And “Don’t touch my Mom” was darned cute :)
But my favorite was for the mushy sentiment – about Friends, how you can’t keep them apart even with fences…. so I go for the Budweiser Clydesdale and the longhorn.
My favorite BY FAR was the Jealous Girlfriend commercial with the babies. I think it’s for AmeriTrade or ScottTrade?
I have to agree on the Doritos and the bud light house – also the clothing drive was pretty funny out of bud light.
At one point there 2 commercials in a row of people wearing their underwear. While funny, I found it a bit too revealing for the 10 young children watching it with us.
I found most of the adds entertaining, but I was really irritated with the add for the US Census. Not because it was a bad commercial, but because our tax dollars were wasted on it! Seriously, 2.6 million dollars? To advertise the census!?!?!?!? I would think that the information you get in the mail would be enough for the vast majority of people except those that are non-English speaking and a commercial in *English* is not going to help that.
I totally agree with the disappointment in GoDaddy. Their commercials are getting *really* old.
I kind of liked that quite a few commercials this year were more encouraging of manhood instead of bashing men, which is far too prevalent on tv today.
Am I the only one that laughed-out-loud for the Dr Pepper “Little” Kiss commercial? Maybe it’s just my silly frat-boy sense of humor :)
I also really got a kick out of the screaming chickens on the Denny’s commercials.
My favorite was the Google ad – very cute
My boys LOVED the Doritos commercial. They are still talking about it. The Google commercial was cute, and the parody is funny :) The one that made me laugh pretty hard was “casual Friday”. Having worked in a very conservative office, I just couldn’t stop laughing.
