The Real Final Chapter: Chase Comes Through

by Lynnae on September 9, 2009 · 7 comments

I’m pleased to report that about an hour ago I received an email from the Chase Executive Offices.  Upon further review of my case, they have decided to credit me back the remaining $98 in overdraft charges, due to the fact that I have been a longstanding customer of Chase/Wamu.

So, the final result is I’m out 10 bucks for the NSF charge on the bad check from Taylor, Bean, & Whitaker.  I’m certainly not going to complain about that to Chase.  I’m very pleased with Chase’s decision to credit back all the overdraft charges.

As for Taylor, Bean, & Whitaker, I called them today to see what the status was on my missing escrow refund.  Apparently the funds are still frozen, and there is a court battle going on to release them.  No time frame was given as to when customers can expect their escrow funds to be released.

I also called the FDIC again, and I still have not heard back from them.  The next step is writing a letter to my congressional representative to see if he can help speed up the process.

I’m beginning to understand why people hid money in their mattresses during the Great Depression.  I don’t recommend it, but I understand.

I am happy to know the execs felt it appropriate (and correct!) to credit you the remainder. And leaving the $10 fee is fine and fair. It was not their fault, nor was it yours. You were a good customer with a good history. Additionally, all that returning of checks and whatnot is fully automated and once a check passes a teller’s hands it’s not touched or seen by a human again. So those fees are merely punitive and they can afford to credit them – what they can’t afford is to lose a customer. Good that they realize this.

I guess it really does pay to deal with the “big wigs”. Glad things got straightened out and sorry for your hassle!

I think it is really sad that we have to go to the “big Wigs” to make sure that the right thing is done. It make me mad that if we are not persistent they will just take our money.

I wonder how many more people are in the same situation and don’t know how to complain and attempt to correct the problem like you have!
