A $500 Room Makeover & a Giveaway

by Lynnae on August 20, 2009 · 396 comments

A month ago I was given a challenge by Walmart and Your Zone, Walmart’s teen/’tween home fashion brand.  Could I make over my daughter’s room for $500, using Your Zone merchandise?

Walmart and Your Zone provided me with the $500 to take the challenge, and they told me I could give away a $500 Walmart gift card to one of my readers, so I jumped on the opportunity.  And here’s how it went.

The Problem

When we bought my daughter’s furniture, she had a room that was approximately 12’x14’.  It was a pretty large room.  And we bought pretty large furniture.

The bedrooms in the house we bought last year are much smaller.  Her new room is 10’x10’, and her furniture seemed way too big for the small space.

My daughter also likes to have friends spend the night.  But with a laminate floor, I can’t just have the kids throw sleeping bags on the floor, like they used to do.  We have an air mattress, but it’s way too big for the small space in my daughter’s room.  And my husband works odd hours, so putting the kids in the living room isn’t ideal either.

The Solution

My daughter and I took the $500 Walmart giftcard and went shopping.  We bought Your Zone bunkbeds ($239) and a matching nightstand ($74).  The bunkbeds are taller than my daughter’s old bed, but the head and foot of the bed are much less bulky.  The new nightstand is also smaller than her old one.

We rounded out the room with:

  • Twin Sheets x 2 – $29
  • Comforter Set x 2 – $59.96
  • Accent Pillows x 2 – $27.96
  • Lamp – $12.00
  • Pop-It Storage Bin – $12.00
  • Curtains – $19.97
  • Lapdesk – $12.00
  • Rug – $19.96

The total came to $505.85, so I paid the $5.85 that was over the amount of the $500 gift card.

My daughter is now a happy camper.  She can have a friend spend the night easily.  And when she doesn’t have a friend over, she uses the bottom bunk for doing her schoolwork and her top bunk for sleeping.

Thank you Walmart and Your Zone!  My daughter is THRILLED with her new room!  Here’s a video of the transformation.  (RSS and email readers might have to click through to see the video.

I would makeover my bedroom! We have lived in our house over two and a half years and it is still dandelion yellow. My hubby wants to redo it but we are short on funds! Thanks, Lynnae!

2 rtc August 20, 2009 at 4:34 am

Very cute room! I love the bright colors.

I would buy window treatments for my entire house. I moved last year and haven’t changed what was here from the previous owners.

3 Emily August 20, 2009 at 4:41 am

My kids could use bunk beds… we sort of have a trundle crib right now. There are so many changes we would make.

4 Leah August 20, 2009 at 4:43 am

I’ve been wanting a mini-kitchen upgrade, but my DH has decided on practical windows. So, I would buy new stools, new window treatments, new table cloth and settings, new light fixtures, and plants!!

5 Southern August 20, 2009 at 4:46 am

I would buy accessories. I have most of the main furniture that we need, but need a lot of accessories for each room. We have built in bookshelves on each side of the fireplace with two story ceilings. I need some tall, colorful items to put on the top shelves. I also need rugs, and pillows, linens, and table decorations.

6 Melissa August 20, 2009 at 4:56 am

Oh, wow – what to do?! For me it would be upgrading my children’s rooms in a few months. My youngest will be moving up to a toddler bed and my oldest from the toddler bed to a “real” bed. And it would be nice to have help covering that transition and the new needed sheets, room decorations, etc. And maybe find a better way to store their toys?

7 Damsel August 20, 2009 at 5:05 am

I would re-do my kids’ playroom and my laundry area — both need better organization!

8 womanofthehouse August 20, 2009 at 5:06 am

I would get new flooring for my kitchen, except I don’t think I can buy that at Walmart. So I think I would work on the landscaping in my yard.

Great job with the makeover, Lynnae!

9 Katja of Skimbaco August 20, 2009 at 5:06 am

Looks great! My girls need a bunk bed and didn’t even check Walmart yet, that looks awesome! I love the bright colors in your daughter’s room, very well done.

10 Jenn August 20, 2009 at 5:20 am

For me, I think it would be replacing a few things in each room rather than redoing just one. My bed’s in good shape, but I could really use new nightstands. Coffee table in the living room. New computer desk. Maybe a kitchen appliance I’ve had my eye on, but can’t afford :)

11 Lori C August 20, 2009 at 5:22 am

we just moved into our house a few months ago and I have a very long list of things to get done. I would probably start with the kids rooms and also buy new window treatments for the living room.

12 Julie August 20, 2009 at 5:28 am

Hi – i’d love a chance to win the card. My neice recently lost her mom, and has been taken in by her grandmother, and we are in the process of designing a room of her very own in the new house – this would be such a welcome gift of inspiration for the change process!

13 sherry August 20, 2009 at 5:41 am

Since the wallpaper in our two bathrooms is old and peeling, I would use that money to either paint or put new wallpaper in them. If there was still some money left, I would paint my childrens’ bedrooms.

14 Buffie August 20, 2009 at 5:46 am

We’re moving in early October, so I would use the money to buy curtains and decorating accessories for the new house.

15 Pamela August 20, 2009 at 5:51 am

I would make over my older daughter’s room. She has been wanting to change her room for a long time – she’s 10 now. New desk, new bookshelf, new chair, new comforter, new window decorations!

16 Corrie @ "Cents"able Momma August 20, 2009 at 5:55 am

I would love to remake our extra bedroom into an office/guest room. It used to be the nursery, and it needs some major work to be transformed.

Loved the video…your daughter’s room looks really cute!

17 Lee Ann August 20, 2009 at 6:00 am

I am sorely needing to reorganize our guest/sewing room. We moved from a 2000+ sq ft house to 1600+ sq ft rental. So, it’s a tad crowded & disorganized in that room. The hardest part is that I’m also having to use it as a storage room as we no longer have an attic or a hall closet!

I haven’t been able to sew or anything for a long time and I would love to get back to it; but, I am frustrated with the room. It’d be nice to reorganize it to the point where it’s usable for BOTH a crafting and a guest room.

18 Shelley G. August 20, 2009 at 6:01 am

I just redid my three year old daughter’s room and I am thrilled with it! However, my five and ten-year-old sons are now a little envious & I’m sure they would love a room makeover too! My own bedroom could use a bit of TLC itself!

19 SarahB August 20, 2009 at 6:05 am

I would use it to help my brother makeover a room in the house he just bought. All his furniture is my parents’ old furniture from the late 1970s and early 1980s. And with everything he wants/needs to do to the house decorating and furnishing it isn’t going to feasible right away. I would love to help him out.

20 Megan August 20, 2009 at 6:07 am

Decisions, decisions! I think I’d work on my new laundry room and possibly my family room. Toy storage is a must!!!

My fingers are crossed!!!

21 Gina August 20, 2009 at 6:13 am

I would redo my daughter’s room. She could really use some organization!!

22 Alexi Barber August 20, 2009 at 6:14 am

I would totally make over my master bedroom/bath room! We are in the process of renovating our house so this will be very helpful!

23 Juliana August 20, 2009 at 6:15 am

We are hoping to move to our own house within the year, and the girls are asking for separate bedrooms. If that happens, we will need to outfit a whole room for our eldest daughter. :)

24 Laina August 20, 2009 at 6:17 am

I would purchase blinds for our bedroom and office to replace the ripped roller shades! If there were any remaining money I’d find some kind of closet organization system – shelves, bins, etc. Thanks!

25 Monica August 20, 2009 at 6:19 am

I would give my son a big boy room :) (great job on the makeover, I love the colors)

26 Chris August 20, 2009 at 6:21 am

I would make over my 2nd bathroom. It’s small and definitely in need of a makeover to create more space and light in there.

27 Carol August 20, 2009 at 6:21 am

Hi! I love this post and your blog. Nice job on your daughter’s room! With $500 I would create a space for work and creation that is not my kitchen table! In a narrow, up-and-down rowhouse built in the 1860′s, I don’t have a natural space for an office or a workroom. I would carve out a nook in the bedroom and outfit it comfortably for work.

28 Jan August 20, 2009 at 6:21 am

I would redo our small office. We often work from home, so it would be nice to have large desk, a comfortable chair, a filing cabinet and so on. $500 should just about do it!

29 Mary August 20, 2009 at 6:23 am

I would decorate my daughter’s nursery. We recently had some water damage in our house, which affected her room, so we haven’t had a chance to paint or make it look feminine. She’s due next week and will be sleeping in the master bedroom with us until we can figure out how to fix up her room.

mfalcon13 (at) hotmail (dot) com

30 Alex August 20, 2009 at 6:23 am

My wife and I have a largely unfinished house because we bought a fixer-upper and ran out of fixer-upper money. We would most likely use the money for home improvement items and bedding.

The room looks great btw.

31 Josie August 20, 2009 at 6:28 am

Oh this would be wonderful to win! I would redo our bedroom… Actually, to better put it, I would finally “do” our bedroom. Since we moved in 2 years ago all we have done is finally buy a “grown-up” bedroom suite. lol. But we still need curtains, nice sheets, comforter, rugs, lamps, etc. Plus I love Walmart and I know you can get a ton of stuff there!

32 Melissa August 20, 2009 at 6:28 am

We’ve recently moved and my girls each have their own bedrooms with bunkbeds. Unfortunately they don’t have sheets/comforters and accessories that match. I would definitely redo their rooms with the money. Thanks for the opportunity! :o)

33 Jon August 20, 2009 at 6:28 am

Would love to make the home office a true “zone” for work, including aesthetics of lighting, color, sound, and design of the workspace.

34 Heidi August 20, 2009 at 6:33 am

I would get some shelves and containers to help organize my kids’ room. All their toys are in the boxes they were moved in, and their clothes are way up on the top shelf of the closet where they can’t reach them without performing daring feats of acrobatics. I would also get curtains for the whole place, as the morning sun is blinding, only to be replaced by sun-like safety lights at night.

35 Marty Walden August 20, 2009 at 6:38 am

I would redo one of my daughters’ rooms. It’s very small, about 11×7. I would buy new storage, a rug, curtains, a smaller bed, the works! She would love it!

36 Angel August 20, 2009 at 6:44 am

I would try to find a desk for my daughter’s room to help the paper clutter. Then use the rest on our room. We have grand plans (that are not really expensive), but don’t have any funds to accomplish them right now. Thanks to you and Walmart for a great giveaway. :)

37 Nancy August 20, 2009 at 6:45 am

If I had $500 to spend on furniture, I would try to get something comfortable to sit on in the living room. We recently had to retire our couch, so we are now sitting on a ratty Papasan and a couple of side chairs.

38 Katie August 20, 2009 at 6:49 am

My fiance and I are getting married in October, so we’d probably invest in a new bed. The other option is nursery furniture, but that might be a little ways away.

39 Sara August 20, 2009 at 6:52 am

I wouldn’t even know where to start! I am closing on my home in September; one that belongs ONLY to me. There are lots of things that need to be done, but I think I’d start in the family room, and paint the ancient paneling, add some up-to-date window coverings, and use the rest to update the attached kitchen!

40 Lynette August 20, 2009 at 6:52 am

I would completely redo our master closet. It has needed an overhaul for a very long time and we haven’t tackled it yet. That would be awesome!

41 CentsInTheCity August 20, 2009 at 6:52 am

I would makeover our living room. My two roommates and I have disgusting, inherited Ikea furniture and it’s not pretty! Our white couch is now grey and our brown couch has a hot orange bleach stain going up the side. We don’t have a proper coffee table, and our tv stand is a bit pathetic as well.

42 Christina August 20, 2009 at 6:54 am

I would buy some window treatments that are sorely needed for our house!

43 Amy August 20, 2009 at 7:03 am

My kitchen hasn’t been redecorated since the 70s – I would love to tear down wallpaper and paint, tear out the old cabinets and install some that are easier to clean, possibly install a ceiling fan or better ventilation system (to help save some money in the long-run, too), and get a new stove/microwave/etc… There is so much to do!

44 fern August 20, 2009 at 7:06 am

I live in an older house with walls that aren’t quite “flat.” I would love to hire a carpenter to install wood paneling on the lower half of the walls beneath the chair rails to camoflauge the imperfections and beautify the living room and dining room.

45 April August 20, 2009 at 7:08 am

I’d love to give my 2 year old a big girl room!

46 Stephanie August 20, 2009 at 7:09 am

I would make my house more homey with some accessories. Maybe some bookshelves.

47 Deb August 20, 2009 at 7:10 am

I would love to clean out all of our old curtains, rugs and pillows, and freshen every room with new fabrics. I think it would make it feel like a new house!

48 Regina August 20, 2009 at 7:13 am

I would use the money to finish the bedroom we had added on for my 2 step-sons. We have paint already but little else.

49 Allison August 20, 2009 at 7:17 am

I would use the money for window valances, new sheets and towels, new decorations for my toddler’s room (he’s outgrown the baby decor), and of course groceries.

50 Sara August 20, 2009 at 7:19 am

I would work on our bedroom, the last room in the house to get attention from our move 6 years ago!

51 Carid August 20, 2009 at 7:22 am

Love the colors!

I would redo our bedroom. I have wanted to make it more intimate and romatic for us as its our private getaway.

thanks!

52 Kimberly August 20, 2009 at 7:24 am

I’m expecting my first child in February and we need to build one wall in a big open area in the middle of my house to make a smaller room for the nursery, add a closet and door, and that would complete the nursery (along with flooring and a light fixture). Since my husband’s been unemployed since last year, this money would really come in handy!

53 Jessica August 20, 2009 at 7:24 am

I would use it to remodel the master bedroom!

jessy.spencer AT gmail DOT com

54 Julie August 20, 2009 at 7:24 am

I’d want to get a small desk, an office chair, and some other sort of seating for our study…then use the rest to snazzy up our boring guest bedroom.
We do need new living room furniture as well, but that’ll cost a bit more than this giveaway will cover!!

55 Stephanie August 20, 2009 at 7:25 am

I could do so much more organizing!

56 Jeremy August 20, 2009 at 7:26 am

We have NOTHING on our walls, even after living in the house for years. We have plenty of pictures that we’ve photographed that we’d love to frame and put up. Hopefully we can do that with this wonderful giveaway!

57 Kelly August 20, 2009 at 7:28 am

We really wanted to move, but with the housing market totally tanking our house wouldn’t sell. Considering the economy the way it is, it is probably a good thing we are still in our tiny house because a bigger house may have been too much, especially since I stay home with my daughter now. What I would really like to do is make some changes in our bedroom and bathroom. New linens, new lamps, etc. By changing up the room a bit, it will feel new and not break the bank!

58 Sheena August 20, 2009 at 7:28 am

I would love to redo our extra bedroom. We got married three years ago and all we have in the room is old furniture given to us by my parents which includes the bunk bed I slept on as a kid, an old dresser, and a chair my aunt and uncle were throwing out. We need a makeover bad!

59 Beachgirl August 20, 2009 at 7:29 am

Well, I moved home a few weeks ago to help out my parents while my dad undergoes chemo and radiation. Most likely, I am moving back to the DC area in a couple months to go back to work (at least not telecommuting) and getting ready for law school next fall. When I moved, I sold all of my furniture and got rid of a lot of my other stuff. So, I need to buy all new furniture (living room, bedroom, etc), as well as towels, bedspread, pots & pans, microwave, etc. So, that is what I would use the money on. Not so much a makeover in the traditional sense, but one none the less.

60 Trisha Novotny August 20, 2009 at 7:30 am

I would Makeover my Children’s bedrooms. My 2 youngest ages 7 and 9 are still sleeping in their Winnie The Pooh Themed nursery as well as our High school Senior Daughter moved from twin bunks to a full size bed but still is using 2 twin bed spreads to cover her bed…she too is in desperate need of a room makeover Id love to see her room go from Horses to To a Teen style room.

61 Paula Freeman August 20, 2009 at 7:30 am

I would use it for my dd. She has had to share a room with 2 sisters since she was born 17 years ago. They both are grown and moved out but she still has the same furniture and paint we did 15 years ago. And with paying for 2 in college we don’t have any extra money to let her change it. She is a great kid and a striaght A student so I would love to surprise her with this.

62 Paige August 20, 2009 at 7:31 am

I would probably just work on landscaping my yard. Thanks for the giveaway!

63 michelle in colorado August 20, 2009 at 7:35 am

Organizing stuff for every where. I needed it.

64 Lucy August 20, 2009 at 7:35 am

Our youngest son (of 6 kids), age 3, has been jipped on the room decorating. If I had $500 from WalMart, we would make him happy by creating his own space. He has the old guest/storage room that really needs some attention!
Lucy

65 Sheila August 20, 2009 at 7:35 am

Oh – where to start? We need a new grill, ours is rusting out. I could really use new (more) dishes. But would I go for things I need (even sort of kind of), or would I go for sheer fun? I’m not sure! Cool giveaway!

66 Mark August 20, 2009 at 7:37 am

The deal with our daughter was if she got A/B’s for 6th grade we would paint her room. Well, she did and we’ve got a gallon of the color she picked out and are planning to paint this weekend (with her help of course!). Some new curtains, sheets, bedspread, etc. would really give it a finished look.

67 Lonelle August 20, 2009 at 7:37 am

I would make over my kitchen!! Paint the walls, buy a china hutch, and make it more cozy and inviting!!

You and your daughter did an awesome job!!

68 Jess August 20, 2009 at 7:39 am

About 3 1/2 years ago, we finished our attic to make a second bedroom. Since then, we have had two kids. The two year old is in the smaller bedroom and my husband and I share a room with our 6 month old (who sleeps in a pack n play). If I had $500, I would outfit BOTH rooms (I’m resourceful and crafty!) to put both kids in one room and give hubby and I a chance for alone time again!

69 Marj McClendon August 20, 2009 at 7:41 am

Our living room is in desperate need of curtains and “maybe” something besides this bulky corner computer unit. Or swapping the 2 plastic shelving units where things get lost falling out the unenclosed back and onto the floor. Plain and simple………..the living room.
I really like what you did with your daughter’s room. Just what it needs…bright and inviting also.

70 Patty August 20, 2009 at 7:41 am

Since my husband and I have been married, we have only been able to buy furniture for my son’s room and we have never been able to get new furniture for us, for our room. My in-laws have graciously given us their old furniture but I would love to have my own things, not something old and handed down. I would love to be able to fix the room I have up with nice surroundings. If I can’t have new furniture, I would love to have new paint, new bedspread, new wall hangings, etc. to at least try to make what I have a little nicer.

71 nicole August 20, 2009 at 7:43 am

I would love to redo my sons room. He is entering 7th grade and could use new furniture to take him into HS. We moved into our place a year ago and I bought some very nice things from craigslist but he works so hard in school and is a honor roll student in his first year of JHS! He deserves it and it would mean alot to me. We are a blended family and have 6 children together. the oldest is 21 and still lives with us, the twins are both in their third year of college. My son the 12 year old is who I would like to do this for. We also have a 1o year old and 5 year old. Full house! LOVE IT ! but this would be a great thing. Thanks!

72 chris August 20, 2009 at 7:44 am

That is really a cute room! It is surprising what you can purchase from certain stores – I never thought of walmart for furniture. Have to consider it for my son’s room, which is in desprate need of a re-do.

73 susan August 20, 2009 at 7:44 am

You did a great job!

I would use $500 to create a guest bedroom when my 20-something son moves out this fall. It is a small room and, like your daughters, the furniture is way too big. We’ll keep the antique bed and use the $500 to decorate and add smaller storage pieces.

74 Melissa August 20, 2009 at 7:45 am

Looks great! I’d love to buy some patio furniture for my back porch. Walmart has a great selection of things for the outdoors.

75 John Simpson August 20, 2009 at 7:49 am

Our (19 yo) son has some antique furniture his Grandma refinished for him, and the (22 yo) daughter has a room full of recently acquired Ikea furniture.

What would I do?
I think our upstairs landing needs a make-over. It was designed as the “sit and relax” space but the old furniture we gave away was too bulky and hard. In this 10×15 foot area it’s time for comfort and function.

76 Megan August 20, 2009 at 7:50 am

We would makeover our kids’ rooms. We have limited closet space, so would add a dresser to one room, plus other types of storage containers. We’d also try to buy some casual furniture for our sunroom.

77 Elisa August 20, 2009 at 7:50 am

I love your Pop-It Storage Bin solution and plan to implement it for my girls’ Webkinz. 3 of my 4 girls share a room –kid/tween/young teen. (Lucky older teen has her own smaller room.) Young teen has a twin bed that she fully decked out with new linens at Christmas, but little sisters could use a refresh on their bunks. The twin bed has useless, non-functioning drawers underneath, which I would like to remove and replace with storage bins. I would get rid of the desk (since everyone spreads throughout the house for studying anyway) and replace it with shelving for more storage. I also like the look of your daughter’s nightstand and rug. Thanks for the ideas, Lynnae. Walmart-Martinez, here I come!

78 Tia August 20, 2009 at 7:51 am

I would love to make over our bedroom. We have had the same comforter for WAY too long. I would like to change it, add some lamps, curtains, decorations and make it a more “romantic” spot. Thanks!

79 Joe B August 20, 2009 at 7:54 am

I would redo our upstairs landing, we have space upstairs outside our kids rooms where we could add items that would invite them to read\play or relax together instead of all 3 in one room!

80 Molly August 20, 2009 at 7:55 am

I would re-do my master bedroom and bathroom that need paint, bedspread, curtains and some other finishing touches.

81 Emily August 20, 2009 at 7:57 am

Wow, so many possibilities! We just bought our first house and, well, let’s say it needs a lot of love. I think I would focus on getting things for the office/craft room to help organize it better.

82 Paula August 20, 2009 at 7:59 am

I have a guest room that is made up of a hodge/podge of this and that from hand me downs, garage sales, etc. I would LOVE to put together a coordinated, welcoming guest room.

83 Anita August 20, 2009 at 8:00 am

I would redo my bedroom, specifically my bed area. I currently don’t have a nightstand, which makes for a lovely pile of books next to my bed. Plus, I only have one set of sheets, so it’s very inconvenient to have to remove, wash, dry and put back on a set of sheets in one day!

84 Bucksome August 20, 2009 at 8:00 am

Great job with the room and the budget! If given the opportunity, we would redo our dining room. We’ve had the same furniture for 20 years and I’m ready for a change!

85 Jen Izen August 20, 2009 at 8:01 am

I would finally buy bedding that I actually like!

86 Heather August 20, 2009 at 8:05 am

I would really like to redo my bedroom. Right now it is just a hodge podge of furniture with no real design style. I would love to make it look and feel like a master bedroom!

87 Cheryl August 20, 2009 at 8:06 am

I would get a new end table and comforter set for my daughter’s room. Thanks!

88 Barb August 20, 2009 at 8:08 am

I would redo my daughters room and ditch the black furniture for sure

89 Trina August 20, 2009 at 8:11 am

We’re a large family in a small home, which works fine for me, but I would LOVE to work on some creative ways to minimize and organize!

90 Ashley August 20, 2009 at 8:11 am

If I win I would finnaly be able to hang pictures on the walls! I would buy frames and different things to sit around my living room! Thanks for the offer!

91 melissa August 20, 2009 at 8:12 am

I have been blessed with 3 children. Our middle child, bless her heart always seems to “fall in the middle” she is not the first and she is not the only boy..for her whole life she has gotten leftovers or hand me downs, for which we are VERY thankful but she would love to have a bedrrom makeover,,something that is all her’s. She is always asking for friends to come over and for them to have a real place to play would be so nice! she is a very creative and loving young lady who would enjoy something just for her!

92 Melissa Y. August 20, 2009 at 8:21 am

My two children boy and girl share a room. The theme is all girl. It would be great to redo their room as a shared space. I bet if I’m frugal enough I could do their room and maybe another. Thanks for the give away!!!!

93 Scorpio99 August 20, 2009 at 8:22 am

Great job on the bedroom makeover! I love the bright, fun colors!
I would love to re-do my own bedroom. Since moving in a year and half ago, I still have not put anything on the walls, painted, or added any personal touches. I would love to make it into a cozy retreat where I can relax after a long day.

94 Cynthia August 20, 2009 at 8:24 am

The room makeover looks great! If I were to win, I would organize my home..my office is a disaster.

95 Mamie August 20, 2009 at 8:24 am

With $500 from Wal-Mart, I could transform the room my niece and nephew use as a playroom/bedroom when they are at my house (a couple days/nights weekly). It would be a great opportunity!

96 Katie August 20, 2009 at 8:25 am

I would definitely redo our bedroom. We’ve managed to decorate every other room in the house, but of course saved myself for last. I would want to get some decorations for the walls and a matching bed set.

The room looks great, btw! I bet she is super excited!

97 Bridget August 20, 2009 at 8:34 am

I would love to update my living room with a rug, new picture frames, and a few other things.

98 Jo Ann August 20, 2009 at 8:37 am

I would buy me a desk to put my computer on. The desk
I am using now is the first piece of furniture we bought
when we were first married. It is 56 years old. Now, I think it is time for a change. Thanks.

99 Brian August 20, 2009 at 8:37 am

I would get new sheets, matching bedside tables, and a new dresser (I currently don’t have one, all my stuff in on shelves in a closet).

Awesome giveaway, thanks!

100 Kelly Bergsing August 20, 2009 at 8:38 am

Wow!! What a great giveaway!! I would have to use it for my boys’ room. There are three in there right now and it is a very small room. With the economy the way it is, we will be here for a while and I would like to make their room more user friendly and comfortable for them.

101 Julieanne Miller August 20, 2009 at 8:43 am

Our master bedroom/bath has never been repainted since we bought our home in 1998…due to the fact that it is a concrete block house, and the bedroom has no insulation. We always hoped to insulate the bedroom by building a false wall, and then painting and redecorating the master bedroom/master bathroom, but we’ve just never had the money to do this. So, our bathroom sits with peeling pale yellow paint that is so flat we can’t even wash/scrub it to make it cleaner, the linoleum has no finish on it, and there’s still old paneling on one of the walls. Since it’s a converted garage, it still has old flourescent “shop lights” in the ceiling. With $500, we would purchase paint, new lighting, new bedspread (ours is still a homemade quilt we received for our wedding), curtains (ours are homemade ones that look homemade – sigh), and more. We have a friend who could help us rewire the bedroom and help put in new lighting for free, and we can do most of the work ourselves. It would be nice to have a little kickstart like the $500 that WalMart is offering here. Thank you for offering contests like these! They will be a blessing to someone.

102 Marketing Mommy August 20, 2009 at 8:46 am

I’m torn. I really, really want a new dining room table and a matching buffet, but I’d probably use a Walmart gift card for a kids bedroom for my 2 year old. She won’t be in her hand-me-down crib much longer. Her room is tiny (9X10) and the closet is already being used by her dad, so storage would be key.

103 mike August 20, 2009 at 8:46 am

I would redo my office so that I can get it organized and stop losing things.

104 Ivette August 20, 2009 at 8:50 am

I have so many rooms to redo it’s not even funny. And I have family coming to visit next summer so it would be great to get some of these projects done.

105 Jane Smith August 20, 2009 at 8:54 am

With $500 from Walmart – I would replace my current window coverings with blackout drapes. This would allow me to lower my heating/cooling bills and update the look of my house.

106 Denni August 20, 2009 at 9:01 am

Great video Lynnae! I had to give this one a lot of thought. I think the one area of the house that is in desparate need of a do-over (not make-over) is our kitchen, nook, laundry room. We desparately need storage, paint, and something personal on the walls. We have tons of pictures of our family, but no frames on the walls. The kitchen is the heart of the home and ours looks like it did in the day we moved in.

107 Roxanne August 20, 2009 at 9:02 am

I would redo my 13 year son’s room. He is outgrowing his bunkbeds that have been very practical and useful. Unfortunately, he is too tall and doesn’t fit comfortable in them. I would replace the beds with a futon/bed for him. That way he can hang out with his friends while they play video games (currently they have to sit on the floor and being all tall boys it is very uncomfortable for him. I would replace his too small student desk with one that has ample storage. I would also have my husband put in a closet-in-the-box in his closet. The shelves are too close together and his clothes is too big to hang with enough space. Thanks for this wonderful chance!!

108 Amy Cocheo August 20, 2009 at 9:05 am

$500…the den would be the room to redo. My couches are, I hate to publicize this, disgusting (3 kids, one dog who thinks the love seat is exclusively hers – you get the picture). So I would go with couch and love seat covers and then curtains/throw pillows to match. A throw rug would be good for the middle of the room (covers the children’s spilled orange soda stains the carpet cleaner wouldn’t clean) would add a special and coordinated touch. Maybe a new lamp or two (?) and then, with what’s left, some new country knick-knacks to add that special touch. $500 at Walmart’s..I could do it!!

109 Donna August 20, 2009 at 9:05 am

Our daughter is using my old white girl’s bedroom suite from 40 years ago. It works but it’s really too large for her bedroom and she’d like to have a more modern look. We’d also like to paint (still the original builder’s paint) and change the curtains in the guest bedroom.

110 Nicole Potter August 20, 2009 at 9:06 am

We would love to make over our master bedroom. We have mismatched furniture from our former home in Tennessee. We moved back to CA 4 years ago and our bedroom is a lot smaller here and so we have a hard time actually seeing the bedroom. Bulky furniture needs to go but no money to do it. This gift card would be a wonderful help to make our room cozy. Great job on your daughters room, very lovely.

111 Tina Bolin August 20, 2009 at 9:12 am

OOOH,what all I could do with a $500 gift card!!I would redo my son’s room, his comforter is ummm, ratty,so that would be the first thing to go,new curtains, rug, then maybe some closet organization things!FUN!

112 Julie August 20, 2009 at 9:16 am

I would love to redo my kids room. They need new curtians and bedding and they have no dressers so the clothes are everywhere. So I guess if I had extra money the first thing I would do it buy them something to keep thier clothes in and update the curtians and bedding.

113 Dawn August 20, 2009 at 9:20 am

Your daughter’s room turned out cute! I love the pink and orange!

I have a tiny room in the attic I would love to turn into a personal nook for writing and meditation. Since the emotional roller coaster of my divorce, my goal has been to take a little space and turn it into a haven of peace. it needs work – paint and furniture and bookshelves that can work in a small space.

114 Kari Carlisle August 20, 2009 at 9:20 am

We were in the process of renovating our house three years ago when we had a serious car accident. Between injuries and financial strain, we have not been able to finish a single room. Every room has one or two unfinished tasks to complete. A $500 gift card from Walmart would go a long to finishing our house!

115 Linda August 20, 2009 at 9:25 am

Our daughter just graduated from college and has moved out of state. We would love to redo her room as a guest room (something she would love too when she comes to visit).

116 Carol August 20, 2009 at 9:28 am

My daughter is turning 12 next week. I would like to finish updating her room. We got a new comforter set, but it doesn’t match the walls, curtains, or accessories in her room. She also needs more storage!! Who knew a girl needed so much : )

117 Lori August 20, 2009 at 9:33 am

I really enjoy reading your blog and have begun using your tips in my life. I would love to redo my 15 year old sons room. He still has his matchbox cars on the shelves…lol. It’s definitely time to make it a more teenage space!

118 Kim August 20, 2009 at 9:34 am

I think I would buy new linens; sheets, towels, table cloths, cloth napkins, etc. I’d also buy some curtains for my guest room and a matching comforter. Thanks for the opportunity

119 Elizabeth August 20, 2009 at 9:36 am

I would makeover my 2 year old’s room for the big boy he now is and the kids bathroom. What a great giveaway!

120 Tamara August 20, 2009 at 9:38 am

What a wonderful gift you are providing….I would love redo our bedroom. Its in need of a paint job, curtains, bedspread and a head board for a bed. So Cool!

121 Julie August 20, 2009 at 9:39 am

I would love to do something with my “extra” bedroom. It is a train wreck with everything from our desk to papers/bills galore, tax records, and all my “odds-n-ends” and projects! It needs some organization and some color!

122 Jaynee August 20, 2009 at 9:42 am

I would fix our master suite. We’ve been in the house three years and we have yet to 1) hang curtains or 2) hang pictures. We need curtains! We need art on the wall! We’re also using mismatched towels in our master bath and have need to redo the shelving in our master closet to make it more efficient. So that’s what I’d spend the $500 on – our master suite.

123 Tara S. August 20, 2009 at 9:48 am

I was laid off, and now I am moving to a MUCH smaller home. I am going from almost 3000 sq feet to 1600 sq feet. It is just my son and I so the space will not really be an issue. However, my sons “man cave” will be. He is going from a room size of 14×15 down to 10×10 so we will need to adjust furniture sizes to make this much smaller space work.

124 Norma in Baton Rouge August 20, 2009 at 9:49 am

I would use the $500 gift card to purchase storage units for my sewing room. Also a smaller computer desk, my existing one takes up far too much room. I have adequate space but the furniture takes up too much room and my fabric is not organized so I can’t find what I need. My 1st time to comment but I read your blog every day.

125 Christina August 20, 2009 at 9:52 am

I would do a thorough baby-proofing of my apartment to protect my crawling son. Cabinets and shelves to keep important/dangerous things out of his reach, replacing several items of our rickety old yard-sale furniture with sturdy things he can’t knock over or try to climb, and finally get some safe things to decorate his bare nursery. We sure would love to win this!

126 Bobbi August 20, 2009 at 9:59 am

Nice video! I love the room too. Orange & pink is really in now.

Changes I would make are some new bedding and simple (less cumbersome) furniture. :) A night stand and new dresser, if possible.

127 Erica August 20, 2009 at 10:04 am

I would so love to give our master bedroom and romantic makeover!! The furniture is fine, I would just love to redo the bedding, curtains, accents, accessories, pictures and stuff like that. Maybe paint a new color on the walls and overall give it a new look! We have had the same stuff for many years and I think it might be fun to change it up.

128 Heather August 20, 2009 at 10:05 am

When my family moved into our current home, my husband and I decided to wait on updating our master bedroom furnishings until we didn’t have a dog (since ours was getting older, we new we wouldn’t wait for very long). Now that he has passed, I am looking to update our bed set (I’m so ready to get rid of our “Frankencomforter”). I want lamps and other accessories to coordinate, and since our bathroom vanity is open, we’ll need to update bathroom accessories (cups, towels, shower curtain, etc).

129 Darcy August 20, 2009 at 10:09 am

We moved into our first home in March 2009 and we are slowly slowly doing things over. What I would do with $500 is paint the girls rooms and get some colorful throw rugs, paint the rest of the rooms (all the rooms!!!!) with some fun paint. I’d attempt to paint the kitchen cabinets….OH, I’d redo the floor in the master bathroom…perhaps even get a new shower.

I know, I’m over the $500 but I’d start with the paint and go from there. :)

130 Lina C August 20, 2009 at 10:11 am

I would definitely use the money to fix up my son’s room. He needs more storage in my tiny apartment. I love furniture with multiple uses.

131 Melissa August 20, 2009 at 10:15 am

I would use the giftcard to introduce organization and structure to my kitchen, dining room and living room. My kitchen have virtually no storage space, and my living room is over-run with plants that are in desperate need of shelves to perch on. It would be amazing how far storage canisters would go in my kitchen.

132 ShootingStarsMag August 20, 2009 at 10:16 am

I’m so glad this all worked out for your family. How wonderful. If I had the money to change a room in my house, I think my family would want to focus either on the living room (we need a new lamp for instance…) or the kitchen. A lot of our supplies is old and it would be great to have the means to spruce up the house a bit.

133 Michelle August 20, 2009 at 10:25 am

Curtains in the living room, a small bench to sit when you put on shoes, 4 folding chairs for when people don’t want to sit on the floor when company comes, 2 rugs, 1 lamp for the spare bedroom, a big box of crayons because I am almost out, extra towels that actually match for when guests come, some new bakeware that doesn’t look scary…..isn’t is strange how the little things add up but it never seems to be in the budget. I guess I am interested in just rounding things out a bit.

134 Robert Johnson August 20, 2009 at 10:27 am

I would spruce up our master bedroom with some crown molding, new drapes, bedspread/comforter and a nice mirror!

135 Wendy August 20, 2009 at 10:32 am

I’d love to get artwork for the walls and new linens throughout the house!

136 Angela August 20, 2009 at 10:36 am

What would i do with $500? The possibilities are endless!

137 Min August 20, 2009 at 10:40 am

I would get a new TV stand and a new couch for my entertainment center and get a new desk chair for my office.

138 Katelyn August 20, 2009 at 10:41 am

I would finally purchase bedroom furniture! We just moved into our first house and our bedroom is huge. It looks so plain with just the bed in there.

139 Denise August 20, 2009 at 10:42 am

Oh goodness we would LOVE to win this. My daughter is beginning the tween years and we desparetly need to update from little girl to a bit older so she isn’t embarrassed to have friends over and so it reflects her more grown up ‘self’. I would use the money for rugs, desk, bulletin boards, magnetic boards, lamps, etc to make a place just for her to study and keep track of her growing number of activities/commitments. Thanks for offering this!

140 Jaime S. August 20, 2009 at 10:46 am

My daugthers room is in terrible need of an update, it was disney princess and she has since outgrown that, so this would be the perfect opportunity to tween it up too!

141 Pam August 20, 2009 at 10:49 am

What a great post! I love what you were able to do with the gift card. I would love to re-do our boys’ bathroom. We haven’t changed it at all since we moved in and it’s not in great shape. I would use that gift card to update and make it suitable for our two boys (5 and 3.)

142 Mrs.CGarcia August 20, 2009 at 10:49 am

The change I would make in our home if we won the $500.00 giftcard is our Darling Child’s room from a little child to a tween! The room could use new curtains, a nightstand, new bedding, possibly even a new paint color on the walls.
This is what I would use the $500.00 gift card to change one room in our home which is our Child’s room to a Tween’s Room!

143 kevin August 20, 2009 at 10:51 am

i’d use it to touch up and make shiny and new all the little things around the house since we’re trying to sell soon.

144 Nichole August 20, 2009 at 10:57 am

I would use the $500 to re-do our family room. I would like a new area rug for the floor, some end tables with storage, as we have none now, and some organizational bins to hold all the toys in the room.

145 Karen August 20, 2009 at 10:58 am

I’d definitely redo the front room- new slipcovers for the couches, artwork on the walls, a couple of floor lamps, some plants… right now when you walk into my house it is so blah!

146 Bonnie Adams August 20, 2009 at 11:04 am

What a nice giveaway! I love the room! My husband was laid off last Dec and is still searching for work. We moved into a smaller house and I have lots of little things we have not been able to purchase. The main things we need to redo are organization. That seems to be key to living in a small house.
thanks!

147 Tanya August 20, 2009 at 11:04 am

A room makeover would be so much fun! I need a second bath but would settle for an office area fix up.

148 T August 20, 2009 at 11:08 am

This is a toss-up. The house we live in now has no landscaping – just some bark in the flower beds. It was uncared about for at least two years – and the house looks sad from the outside. I would love to landscape with hardy plants that can contribute to the nature that spills over from the creek across the street. I’d also love to furnish our family room/den – right now it has a hand-me-down love seat and a blanket for curling up on the floor. Our desire when we bought the house was to have it open for family and friends to come spend time with us. At this time, we can seat two people… plus four if we bring down the kitchen chairs. I’d love to make our house more inviting in and out!

149 Virginia Thiessen August 20, 2009 at 11:17 am

Wow! My whole house could really use a makeover but maybe I would continue with my bedroom. We have started buying some items (like sheets & a new desk) from Walmart so I would want some of the matching pieces like the bookcase. Also a new filing cabinet as my bedroom is also our home office as well. My bedroom could also use some new lighting and some pictures and curtains. So even though my entire house needs a facelift I would use the $500 gift card on my bedroom.

150 Margie August 20, 2009 at 11:30 am

We just bought a house and are redoing many rooms, next up is the master bedroom, but we could also use it for the kitchen or downstairs bathroom. :)

151 Adrianne LoBue August 20, 2009 at 11:32 am

I have a large bedroom but no place for my home office. My laptop sits on a TV tray stand and my printer on a wicker table. I would definitely buy a computer desk, a computer chair and a bookcase. I would place it in a little nook in my bedroom and separate it from my bedroomj with a lacey curtain.

152 Ruth Hoekstra August 20, 2009 at 11:33 am

We would love to continue finishing our basement–does Wal-Mart sell carpeting? Bedding for our so-far nonexistent guest room would be fabulous! Thanks for allowing us to dream a little, Lynnae!

153 Bunny August 20, 2009 at 11:38 am

My husband and I just bought our first home (taking advantage of the tax credit), and we are so excited! It’s a 1929 Colonial with wonderful architecture and HORRIBLE wallpaper EVERYWHERE. The first thing I would like to do is tear down those metallic zigzags (yes, apparently they make wallpaper with metallic zigzags), then head to WalMart for some paint in colors that will really make the place feel like home. Thanks so much for offering this giveaway!

154 Cindy Brick August 20, 2009 at 11:40 am

We could really use some new bookshelves! And I like Walmart’s storage systems, too…

155 Jennifer August 20, 2009 at 11:48 am

I would use the $500 for our new baby, due the first week of April. We got rid of all our baby stuff last year when we thought we were done! God has other plans! We only have a 3 BR house on a military base and we already have 3 girls, so we have to literally “create” a space for this new little one…

156 Jill August 20, 2009 at 11:51 am

My husband and I are expecting our first child at the end of October so we would use the $500 giftcard for our baby nursery!

157 Amiyrah August 20, 2009 at 11:52 am

Wow, so many changes! We actually just found out that we got the place of our dreams and will be able to move in about a month from now. Since I think my son had gotten the short end of the stick in the small place we frequented for 4 years, I would do his room first. New bed, actual dressers, storage, the works.

Thanks for doing this giveaway!

158 Peggy August 20, 2009 at 11:57 am

I’m currently doing a small reno to my kitchen/living area to give the two spaces some distinction as separate spaces and then I’ll be putting in a closet in the back entrance of this house-without-a-coat-closet. The bathroom is a must-do by this fall as well. After that, I’ll be spent, both of energy and cash. My bedroom is still bare as is my son’s. I’d love to be able to spruce them up just a little and make them look grown up (for mine) and like a little boy’s space (for his).

159 Sarah Joy August 20, 2009 at 12:00 pm

I would get new living room/entry hall curtains and some pillows and accessories.

160 Tiffany August 20, 2009 at 12:01 pm

With $500 I would…
Buy new pots & pans (a good, quality set), a new rug for the entry, a new computer desk, and a new dresser (bigger).

Thanks for the great giveaway!

161 Megan August 20, 2009 at 12:04 pm

My daughters room has had no decor for 1 1/2 years and it won’t happen anytime soon in my budget. So I would put up valences, get her a comforter set and something cute to put on all the wall. Then I’d get some curtains for my room and then see what was left to do window dressings down stairs.

162 Jillian August 20, 2009 at 12:05 pm

I am moving from a shared 2-bedroom apartment to a studio alone. I need some things that my roommate owned (e.g., living room seating!) and also smaller versions of things I already own but won’t fit in my new place (e.g., dining room table). I would use the $500 to purchase creative dual-purpose/space-saving solutions like storage ottomans.

163 Anshu August 20, 2009 at 12:07 pm

I would love to use the card for storage solutions and a dresser. I’m currently putting together the nursery for my baby girl..and those storage bins sure look cute.

164 Christi Higham August 20, 2009 at 12:10 pm

Where to start? Our house is done in pink and purple shag carpet and pink painted walls. It needs a makeover!

165 Coco August 20, 2009 at 12:18 pm

My sister and I just moved into a mobile home that we are remodeling and reconfiguring. We both had dining room tables and chairs but they don’t work in this new space. I would love to get something smaller and more efficient for our space, some shelving and storage solutions. New lighting, dinnerware and other accessories would be wonderful.

I hope you pick us for the 500.00 makeover.

Thank you

166 Sharnel August 20, 2009 at 12:18 pm

Cute make over!! I have to say, that with a $500 gift card from Walmart, I would make over my tween daughter’s bedroom too. When we bought our house 3 years ago, my daughter (who is the oldest of 3 children) agreed to take the smallest bedroom. Her 2 younger brothers each had larger furniture that would not have fit in her room. Her room even came complete with circa 170 floral wallpaper, and she doesn’t even complain. We had hoped to at least take down the wallpaper, give her some fresh paint and bedding, but a string of unexpected (and costly) home repairs always seem to exhaust the funds before renovation money is allocated. She is a great kid with a beautiful heart. I would DEFINITELY give her room a make over!

167 Laurie August 20, 2009 at 12:19 pm

As I’m adding a 2nd child to our homeschool plans this year I need a desk, more shelving (TWO Sonlight Cores this year!), to replace the desk chairs we have AND I need to buy new sheets and a comforter for the kids bunk bed that I just got off of craigslist.

Great article – her room looks really cute!

168 blossomteacher August 20, 2009 at 12:25 pm

My entire 1954 house has been painted and primped except for my kitchen…it is horrible, with avocado floors! I would sand and paint the cabinets, add a cute curtain to the window, buy a few pieces to organize the cabinets, and a few cute things to decorate the windowsill and walls. Too bad Walmart doesn’t sell flooring…wonder if I could paint the floor too? Even if I don’t win the gift card, I might start on this anyway!

169 Cat August 20, 2009 at 12:30 pm

I would bug a new rug, some curtains, and possibly a bed.

170 John August 20, 2009 at 12:30 pm

Perfect timing – we are redoing my older daughter’s bedroom so her younger sister can move into her room with her….

171 Kristie C August 20, 2009 at 12:42 pm

I think I would get some new pots and pans, and possibly some new decorative items for my kitchen and family room. What a fantastic contest!

172 Courtney August 20, 2009 at 12:43 pm

Being suddenly single and on my own after a ten-year marriage, I would use the funds to decorate one or two upstairs bedrooms that are now completely empty.

173 Terri Burkhert August 20, 2009 at 12:44 pm

It would be great to win! with all the children some dressers and accessories would really com in handy.

Blessings to you Lynnae.

174 jennifer August 20, 2009 at 12:47 pm

i would get new bedding because my old bedding was ruined when someone ,okay it was me, accidently used chlorine bleach when washing it instead of color safe bleach.i would also buy paint because i painted my bedroom and didnt do such a hot job.also since i have nothing on my walls i would by some art.

175 Amy August 20, 2009 at 12:47 pm

My ex-bf just moved out, so I need to buy all sorts of housewares and furniture – silverware, plates, pots & pans, lamps, a nightstand, sheets, curtains, dining room set, etc. Thanks for the giveaway!

176 Lisa August 20, 2009 at 12:52 pm

I know one thing that I would do with a $500 gift certificate is to buy new sheets. Mine are a bit thread bare. After that I would probably look into new towels. Past that I would use any money left to fill up the pantry. Ahh…to dream…………

177 Michele August 20, 2009 at 12:53 pm

I have 7 kids (not exactly minimalist there!) so you can imagine how crazy my house can get. Most clutter issues are due to the lack of “a place for everything.” So, I would spend the money in an effort to help us create that organized place for everything. Starting in the kitchen, I would empty all cupboards and drawers and realistically assess what we use and what can be tossed. Then I would try to replace the needed items that don’t function well or take up too much space. All cabinets and drawers would then be equipped with dividers and properly organized. Next, I would try to go through the same process in all the closets and drawers throughout the house. Reduce, reorganize properly. If there was anything left over, I would finish the half-bath makeover that is only half-way done. Wallpaper has been stripped and then the whole project was put on the back burner.

178 Denice August 20, 2009 at 1:00 pm

I would use the 500.00 to purchase pillows and new linens. I feel I can make a little go a longway to giving the whole house a redo feel with new soft goods such as linens, pillows and curtains.

179 Elois August 20, 2009 at 1:00 pm

What a great accomplishment on your daughters room!! If I won a gift card, I would actually get matching bedroom stuff. We have always been tight on money and I would someday love to have a master bedroom/sanctuary that had calming colors. A comforter/pillows/curtains/bathroom towels, and access. as our bathroom is very open w/bedroom and a screen seperator for that issue as well!!

180 Heidi August 20, 2009 at 1:07 pm

We are currently in the process of building a new room above the garage. My husband has taken on the task himself (with the help of very generous friends when time allows) to save money. (he has contracted out the drywalling, thank goodness!) After this room is done, he & I are moving into it, our daughter is moving into our current room & the extra will be for a new addition to our family.
We are not completely sure who will be in our daughter’s current room, but are seriously looking at adoption once my husband is through with school next spring. We are praying as a family for the right child at the right time & God’s will in all of this.
$500 is a mint! This money would go a long way in not only fixing up our daughter’s “new room”, but also in helping to “de-purple” her current room & change to fit whoever God will have living here.

181 Jennifer Johnston August 20, 2009 at 1:13 pm

We moved to Hawaii in January to start a new ministry on the Big Island (my husband is a minister). We sold everything and only brought our mattresses and one dresser. My biggest regret is that we didn’t bring our kitchen table. After being in Hawaii for 8 months, we still are eating at a plastic table with plastic chairs. Mealtimes are special and our dining room is not. We also just had a baby and gave our 2-year-old’s crib to the baby. So now we need bunk beds for the 2 boys. So that’s what I would do!

182 Julie August 20, 2009 at 1:13 pm

I would use the money to finish decorating both my boy’s rooms since we moved them around earlier this year and never finished. If there is anything left, I would use it to buy new bathroom rugs.

183 Diane August 20, 2009 at 1:17 pm

I would change my sons’ room. We moved 6 years ago and the walls are still off white and the furniture does not match. It would be nice to have something with a little more pizazz for them.

184 Beth August 20, 2009 at 1:21 pm

Our firstborn is 9 months old now and is getting more mobile every day. I’d really like to finish part of our basement into a big ‘ol playroom for our little man so he can explore more on his own (with a watchful eye from mom & dad, of course).

185 Jen Parsons August 20, 2009 at 1:31 pm

I would use the gift card to up date towels, sheets, and bedding! And also new curtains for my bedroom! Thanks Love your blog!!

186 Alba Guevara August 20, 2009 at 1:44 pm

I would definitely use the card on my son’s room. He needs a change to the hand me down furniture he has had. When i moved in to our new house, me single mother, I could not afford to buy new furniture. So my son has been using an old bunk bed, and mattress. He also has a desk someone was throwing out that if moved, will fall apart. super_alba_star@yahoo.com

187 Ritu August 20, 2009 at 1:47 pm

I could use the gift card to buy a dresser, some new bedsheets, new bedding, storage cabinets.

188 Melissa Bieghler August 20, 2009 at 1:48 pm

We are a family of four living in a small 726 sq ft house. My two kiddos, Lucas 3 and Hannah 1 share one room. I have split their room with their toys and beds. With looking toward the furture and wanting another bundle of joy, God willing, we will have to to do some major changes on how to get three kiddos into one room. We would love to get one big dresser for them to share, and bunkbeds. We love our small home, don’t get me wrong, it makes the family stay close, instead of everyone going to their own corner of the house and doing their own thing. We would really gain from $500 to outfit their room to fit another little one! Thank you so very much!

189 Marla T August 20, 2009 at 1:53 pm

I would like to buy new bedding for my daughter and me in addition to curtains, blinds, some organizing bins, throw rugs and some wall decorations. I rent my home, and would like to get things that can make it comfortable that can be taken with me when I move. Thank you for the awesome giveaway. Would love to win!

190 Sarah August 20, 2009 at 1:58 pm

I would love to have the giftcard to redo our guest room! We’re having a baby in April (YAY!!!) and live in a two bedroom house. The office has to go soon! Baby needs crib, bedding, curtains, changing table, and I need a comfortable rocking chair!! Thanks!!

191 Meghan August 20, 2009 at 2:07 pm

My husband and I recently moved in to our first home. We’ve only been married a year and a half and we’ve spent most of our marriage getting us out of debt and into a house. So all of our furniture is our ‘college’ leftovers. I would LOVE just LOVE to give our living room some new pieces. Our couch is rather dangerous and we’re still using boxes for coffee tables and an old nightstand for our TV stand.

192 Kristy August 20, 2009 at 2:26 pm

With $500, I would finally get curtains for all our windows. I think I’d even have enough left over for a small writing desk (which we desperately need.)

~Kristy

193 Erin August 20, 2009 at 2:37 pm

I would most defiantly purchase more cooking utensils, as I’m running on the bare minimum as of now. But I would defiantly paint my house, brighten it up some, and than decorate accordingly!

194 Hdizzle August 20, 2009 at 2:37 pm

With $500 I would buy a loveseat to replace our ratty old recliner that we currently have in the living room (hand me down from my wife’s parents). If there was anything leftover, I’d probably add a new coffee table (also a hand me down)

195 Miya August 20, 2009 at 2:39 pm

Great job with revamping your daughter’s room. This summer we did a remodel to our family room: new laminate floors, painting, trim/etc. I would love to win the $500 gift card because I still need to finish a few things in the room like getting an area rug, storage options for toys/music/DVD’s, blinds or curtains and decorative accessories.

196 Annette D August 20, 2009 at 2:49 pm

I would redecorate my guest room. I need to repaint and buy new bedding a lamp and some towels!

197 Wanda August 20, 2009 at 2:51 pm

I would definately use 500$ at walmart to decorate a very small patio we have. Right now it is so ugly and over-grown, I try to not take the trash out until dark so I don’t have to look at it.

198 emily sommer August 20, 2009 at 2:53 pm

I would make over the boys room, get the baby out of the crib and have matching beds. Curtains, bedspreads, pillows. Something that says “i’m a 6 year old boy, and my baby brother sleeps here too” Instead of “baby boy room and what’s this 6 year old doing here”

199 Marci August 20, 2009 at 3:05 pm

I’d like a finished floor in the living room – I’m still walking around on the subfloor :(

And if there was some leftover, more canning cupboards for the mudroom :)

200 Boomeyers August 20, 2009 at 3:09 pm

My daughter is having a German exchange student come to stay with us in a couple of months. We have been trying to piece together her room and bathroom to make it nice and comfortable, but I am out of a job, so we are doing our best on NO budget! :-) She needs a couple pieces of REAL furniture, storage, and some new bath items (sink, toilet seat, shower curtain, etc…)

201 Charlene August 20, 2009 at 3:26 pm

I would love to get all new bedding and towels throughout our home. I should have enough left for paint to re-do our bedrooms!

202 Amy August 20, 2009 at 3:45 pm

I would get some new rugs, a desk, some new kitchen supplies, and some fun things for my kitties!!

203 Kayla August 20, 2009 at 3:47 pm

I think I would probably buy a new chair for the apartment. We could use a new one. I might consider getting a table as well. We need a new kitchen table. I’m so excited to enter! :)

204 sharyn August 20, 2009 at 3:49 pm

I’d do over either my youngest daughter’s room OR the back patio, which is really an outdoor room.

205 Carol August 20, 2009 at 3:51 pm

I would buy some furniture for my newly-wed son and daughter-in-law. My son has a chronic illness and they could really use a sofa, kitchen table, and chair.

206 SingleGuyMoney August 20, 2009 at 4:15 pm

I would like some new furniture for my home office. That would be awesome.

207 Leslief August 20, 2009 at 4:15 pm

I would definitely buy some new nightstands instead of using the storage bins we currently have. Also, I’d buy some dining chairs that do not have holes in the lattice. If i had money left over, I may redecorate my husband too!

208 Bitsy August 20, 2009 at 4:35 pm

I would definitely makeover my guest room with a new bed, new bedding and some cool decor!

209 Debbie August 20, 2009 at 4:46 pm

This is the first time I have commented on your blog (though I have been reading- and loving- it for several months now). And I just couldn’t pass up this opportunity, though I know the chances of winning are slim.

$500?! I would get some new bedding for me and if possible a dresser for the baby. He has been stuck with metal shelves and spray painted boxes, poor thing. And I would love to get some accessories like apothecary jars (can’t seem to find those at thrift stores yet) and/or some decorative plates. Oh, and some more lamps. And that would probably use up the money, but if not I am sure I could find more stuff. I can always find more stuff at Walmart.

210 Kate August 20, 2009 at 5:07 pm

I would re-do my (almost) 8 year-old’s room to match her growing personality. She is too old for the Winnie-the-Pooh decorations from baby-hood. We would paint the walls, and get new lamps and bedding.

211 JuliaH August 20, 2009 at 5:28 pm

I would buy some nice bedding and wall art for the master bedroom

212 Lynn August 20, 2009 at 5:34 pm

I would make over my girls’ room.

213 Lorie August 20, 2009 at 6:01 pm

I would use the money to prepare our home for our 3rd child, due in Feb. We have 3 bedrooms so 2 children will need to share a room. We aren’t sure what that will look like but $500 would sure be helpful.

214 Kelli Brinson August 20, 2009 at 6:01 pm

My husband and I have a house near Galveston and we had quite a bit of water damage last year from Hurricane Ike. We lost most of our belongings. My parents live near by as well and they had a lot of water damage also. Our home was repaired quickly since we rent and the house owner was eager for us to stay and keep paying him rent! My parents are not as fortunate. Since my father is repairing their home on his own to save money, he has finished only a couple of rooms in almost a year. I would love to be able to give my parents a 500.00 giftcard for them to use on one of their rooms. My mom loves scrapbooking and would love to fix up an art room. My dad estimates that it will take another 2 years before they even get new floors. They are walking around on concrete! So, in a nut shell, I would give my parents this giftcard in hopes that it helps them to fix up their home (maybe an art room for mom) and the only home I ever grew up in :).

215 Laura August 20, 2009 at 6:17 pm

I would buy a new toilet for the master bathroom (which was supposedly remodeled just before I moved in!) and start updating the kitchen!!! And maybe a couple of flowers for outside :-)

216 Michelle August 20, 2009 at 6:20 pm

Much needed rugs!! and new sheets for me.

217 Susannah August 20, 2009 at 6:23 pm

I would buy outdoor furniture for my recently refinished front porch and back deck!

218 Deborah August 20, 2009 at 6:47 pm

hhmmm…. I would get a head and foot board for my bedroom. The bed my hubby and I share has been sitting on the floor for eight years now and I think it’s time to move up in the world. We’ve never had night stands either so they would be a very nice additon and would get that alarm clock up off the floor. I would love to be able to add a matching comforter set and curtains to make it look like a real bedroom as well. It seems like the parents are always the last to get taken care of….

219 katiya August 20, 2009 at 6:55 pm

I would get a new mantle for the fireplace and a wok :) Some paint for my office as well since I don’t like the ivory and would go for a light peach or purple!

220 David S August 20, 2009 at 7:10 pm

I would buy a new bed

221 Tiffany Rodi August 20, 2009 at 7:12 pm

Bunkbeds for my 5 year old sons room and night stands – poor kid has plywood attached to the wall to use as nightstands!! UGH!!

222 Sarah Jessica August 20, 2009 at 7:23 pm

I would replace the $10 craigslist ladies armchair that has lost one of its springs and is now lopsided in my living room. Then I’d add a chenille throw, a blanket, and a footstool. Would be great!

223 Nathalie August 20, 2009 at 7:26 pm

we changed our garage into a home studio last year and have covered half of our patio with what used to be the contents of our garage. While I have been de-cluttering as much as I can I would use the $500 to get a little storage shed for a backyard. Coming in a close second would be to get all new curtains for our home….

224 Kim August 20, 2009 at 7:43 pm

I currently have 2 kids sleeping on mattresses on the floor , one outgrew her toddler bed and we got a free mattress but couldn’t afford a frame for it , & my son’s bedframe broke and again, no money to replace . They ‘d love to get up off the floor by winter !

225 Catherine August 20, 2009 at 7:55 pm

I just moved to DC with little furniture (just a bed and desk). I would get some chairs, lamps, and a dresser.

226 Jennifer Clark August 20, 2009 at 8:00 pm

There’s so much I could do with $500…get more storage for my kid’s rooms, add a side table to my bedroom, storage for the living room and kitchen and bathroom. I’m seeing a trend…storage. I’ve got a large house but oddly not enough organized storage to keep everything in it’s place so it ends up EVERYWHERE!!!!

Don’t let anyone tell me the Your Zone is just for teens either…I’ve seen some stuff I would really like for myself! ;)

227 Mary August 20, 2009 at 8:14 pm

What an op! Thanks for putting on this giveaway!

With $500, I could buy slip covers for the sofa and recliner, matching pillows and sheers, a new blanket for the bed, and a dinnerware set (so many chips in my 29yo dishes!). And CFL bulbs around the house!

Thanks again!

228 iris August 20, 2009 at 8:26 pm

That would come very handy since my living room set is 13 years old I would also get slip covers and maybe some lamps.

thanks God bless you,

229 Farmwife August 20, 2009 at 8:29 pm

Wow, I would LOVE to be able to get some real curtains up in the kids’ rooms, and some actual rugs for the floors. Not to mention we could certainly use some bathroom accessories! I could go wild!

230 Christy August 20, 2009 at 9:02 pm

I’d love the opportunity to decorate my living room. We have a large sofa, chair, ottoman, and TV in a room with no decent window coverings, nothing on the walls, and no tables/accessories. This would help out a lot!! Thanks for the giveaway!

231 Julie P August 20, 2009 at 10:08 pm

We’ve had to rearrange bedrooms for our children recently and need to find a way to carve a section of the playroom out for my 3 yr old daughter’s “room” for a year or so. I’d love to be able to make it a special place for her.

232 Lyn August 20, 2009 at 10:19 pm

My daughter in college needs a desk, lamp, kitchen items and other things for an unfurnished apartment.

Thanks for the giveaway!

233 Mary August 20, 2009 at 10:37 pm

That is so cool! I am in desperate need of doing something in my master bedroom. We don’t even have a comforter. We do have a new bed, a very old dresser, and tacky laptop table end tables. Otherwise, there’s random stuff and a fan. It’s not remotely close to the retreat it should be.

234 Kaitlin August 20, 2009 at 11:19 pm

I would buy more blankets, because I have a serious blanket addiction!

235 Denise E. August 21, 2009 at 2:56 am

I would love to be able to do over my daughter’s room. she is 17 and nothing is cool. Hopefully some things might carry over to college. Thanks for the opportunity.

236 Rebecca Absher August 21, 2009 at 3:42 am

I would love to win this giveaway…since moving into our new smaller home in June I haven’t had the chance to do anything with our son’s (who is 14) room…He would enjoy this so much. Thanks for the great giveaways.

237 Lisa August 21, 2009 at 4:23 am

I wouldredecorate my daughter’s room! She’s in college, but her room still has a young teen feel, so I would absolutely love to give her a more grown-up room!

238 Vickie Couturier August 21, 2009 at 5:25 am

I would redo my spare room,we dont have itlooking good for kids, its plain an we get foster kids in our home,so having a nice looking room for them would be so nice since they dont often get nice rooms

239 Cat & Mark August 21, 2009 at 5:48 am

I’m embarrassed to admit it, but many of our bath towels are close to a decade old! We really need to replace them all, but with a family of 7 that seems daunting. Our oldest 3 girls share a room and although they are doing just fine with the mish-mash of hodgepodge hand-me-downs, it would be nice to be able to pull the decor together.

240 Nate @ Debt-free Scholar August 21, 2009 at 6:02 am

I would probably get more books or a new bookshelf.

241 amanda August 21, 2009 at 6:25 am

This would be so awesome!! We are wanting to redo my daughters room! She wants a lounge area with chairs and a little table for her and her friends. Thanks for the giveaway!

242 Kat August 21, 2009 at 6:32 am

I would love to redo my bathroom. Towels, shower curtain, rugs, soap holders, etc! Looking forward to my redecorating!

243 Jennifer Guire August 21, 2009 at 6:51 am

I would redo my girls’ room in all things pink which they have been begging me for.

244 Rebecca Rivera August 21, 2009 at 6:59 am

my boys need bunk beds. plus I would paint my kitchen. I also would finish painting my bedroom.

245 Melissa August 21, 2009 at 7:19 am

With $500, I would like to spruce up the entryway to my home (table, rug, etc) and I would also like to decorate my guest bedroom…we’ve got furtniture but otherwise it’s pretty barren!

246 Laurene August 21, 2009 at 7:52 am

I am working on remodeling my hosue one room at a time. The next room on the schedule is a bedroom that needs minimal work (compared to the new wall and ceiling and floor the last one needed), so I would definitely use the gift card to knock that out. It will be a guest bedroom but with a kid room theme (for my neice), so I will need Paint, bedding, dresser, wallpaper, window treatments, ceiling fan and if I had extra left over I would get some new towels for the bathroom.

247 Tammy August 21, 2009 at 7:58 am

I would get an eggshell mattress cover so that our bed would be a wee bit softer. I would also buy some pretty curtains for the living room and bedroom areas. I’m sure there’s extra kitchen accessories I could use– I know I need a good tea kettle and a toaster.

248 Janice August 21, 2009 at 7:59 am

Janice
I would spend the $500 on my grandchildren’s & step grandchildren rooms, I would add a dresser for clothes and a comforter for their beds and just make it more like other kids rooms. they have very little with 4 children and a baby due in a couple of weeks.

249 Deanna Yockey August 21, 2009 at 8:06 am

We moved to Northern Michigan and purchased a house. The bedrooms are really small. It would be nice to purchase furniture that actually fits in the room. This would allow space for homework and to keep items organized.

250 Lisa B. August 21, 2009 at 8:19 am

Finish decorating my kids rooms (working on a OKC Thunder basketball room for my son and a heart girly room for my daughter) and also new towels for the guest bathroom.

251 Robin August 21, 2009 at 8:20 am

I would help update our kitchen for my mom. She gets frustrated every time she uses it – so even if we just got new paint and hardware, it’d make her happy. :)

252 Janice August 21, 2009 at 8:24 am

I would strip the wallpaper from my living room, hallway and guestroom, fix the plaster walls (house was built in the 30s) and paint the walls and woodwork. Would buy a new rug for the living room and new curtains for the guest room. Everything is dated and worn.

253 Lee August 21, 2009 at 8:39 am

There’s always repairs to be done at our house. New paint or new covers on the old couch and chair. The washing machine is on its last leg… my kids could use new mattresses for their beds. Or not really related to the house, my husband and I really could update our wardrobe, since we’ve had the same clothes for years! If we won this, we would be hard-pressed to figure out what to do first! Thanks for the chance to win.

254 jim August 21, 2009 at 8:48 am

I would buy a hutch of some kind. We have a ton of silverware/ceramics/china/etc in boxes because we have no where to put them, a hutch certainly would do the trick.

255 Bobby August 21, 2009 at 9:04 am

I’d repaint the bulk of the house, add a few decorative pieces to the walls, and maybe a rug or two to give a splash of newness as well. It would be a very welcomed gift.

256 Janice August 21, 2009 at 9:26 am

$500 could go a long way in sprucing up my dated living/dining room. First I would welcome people into my home by sanding and painting the front door and putting in some new hardware. Second, I would lighten up the walls in the living room with some fresh paint and purchase a new carpet and coffee table. The dining room could also use some paint and perhaps a hutch of some kind to hold my Grandmoms china.

257 Amber August 21, 2009 at 9:31 am

My dining room could use some help–new paint, curtains, new dining room chairs, and I’d like some type of “island” to go in the dining room since my kitchen isn’t big enough for one. I usually use the dining room table as space to cook on so getting some other type of table/island would be nice.

258 Suzanne August 21, 2009 at 10:10 am

Wow, $500 I guess I would start with organizing solutions. Then from there paint and if there was anything left over decorate a little. I have been in my house almost 5 years and I really don’t have a thing hung on the walls, I would love to do a wall of picture frames to capture our family.

259 Gina August 21, 2009 at 10:36 am

We just moved into a much smaller apartment (with much less to pay in rent!) We’re on the look-out for new storage solutions for the new place.

260 Steve August 21, 2009 at 10:52 am

We would finish our basement remodel that we’ve slowly been doing with cash. We have a few finishing touches including some furniture and cabinets.

261 cheryl August 21, 2009 at 10:56 am

We have 11 children, both biological, adopted and foster children…our oldest is 33 and our youngest 6 months, so not all 11 are at home. Our bedroon has never been updated, or painted since we moved in, and the 70′s wall and decor still are there. My husband works alot of nights, and sleeps days and the room feels like a cave. dark all the time. How I would love a beautiful romantic room…For this wonderful man who has made it possible for us to raise this awesome big family.

262 Denise@TogetherWeSave August 21, 2009 at 11:31 am

I would finish fixing up my downstairs den. I really need a new coffee table and area rug for that space.

263 Tamara August 21, 2009 at 11:42 am

I’m going to be purchasing a condo soon, so I would use it for all those “little things” you don’t realize you need until you’re setting up a new place (and most of my stuff has been in storage for 4 years, so I have no idea if I even have what I’ll need to set up housekeeping again).

264 kelligirl August 21, 2009 at 11:42 am

Well, I would use it just like you! I have a 10 year old daughter who wants to go from lovely pastel wallpaper and Laura Ashley bed linens to vibrant colors and polka dots! With a freshman in college even in-state, I could definitely use this gift card!!!

265 Barbara Beck-Azar August 21, 2009 at 12:06 pm

I am an artist who has always put my “studio” last when it comes to decor. My husband actually holds the key to awesome design and keeps things nice around the house, in fact all rooms are done except this one space. I have a collection of storage things that don’t work and my Closet art is rarely scene let along a work table. I would love to redecorate and create with a serene and organized art studio!

266 SHERRY L August 21, 2009 at 12:20 pm

I would give it to my youngest daughter, she just started college, and has decided to stay home and commute.
She would love to makeover her room.

267 Carolyn August 21, 2009 at 12:43 pm

I work on both kids’ rooms. Both kids want new paint, and DD wants new bedding, curtains, lamps, accessories, etc. I would probably also try to get new curtains for the kitchen window and paint for the landing from the kitchen to the side door to the basement. We’ve already priced a lot of the above, so I know I could do it! Thanks for being able to offer a great giveaway!

268 Jonathan August 21, 2009 at 12:49 pm

My room is so small and disorganized. I would buy a new desk, put the room back together and then maybe I would be able to find something!

269 eileen August 21, 2009 at 12:55 pm

I would get more bookcases and storage and finally move in to the house I moved into a year ago!

270 Elise August 21, 2009 at 1:12 pm

I could make $500 Walmart dollars go a long way! I’d like some paint for the master bedroom and the kitchen. I’d also like new overhead lights for all three bedrooms. I know I can do all that and more with $500 from Walmart! Thanks for the chance to win!

271 Laurel August 21, 2009 at 1:44 pm

I would like to fix my daughters room, she started highschool this year and her room has nothing in but a bed, not even a dresser. She needs the whole shabang.

272 Dena August 21, 2009 at 2:07 pm

I would update my sons room from that of a toddler to one more appropiate for a little boy.

273 Sarah August 21, 2009 at 2:12 pm

I would probably use the $500 to get new curtains for almost every room in my house! I would also buy some type of storage for toys for my daughter’s room.

274 Anne Clement August 21, 2009 at 2:26 pm

I would love to change my toy/book storage area into something more family friendly…not just kid friendly. You know, hiding the toys/books without keeping them ALL in the kids’ rooms.

275 Kristy Geddes August 21, 2009 at 2:40 pm

Hi I’m not sure if Australians can enter. But I am heading to The States for a much saved for holiday in October. The holiday will be extremly frugal, so winning this would be great.

276 Becky@FamilyandFinances August 21, 2009 at 2:59 pm

I would also buy paint! My kitchen, all bedrooms, and our master bath all need a coat of paint :)

277 JOanne Nair August 21, 2009 at 3:34 pm

My 11 yr old daughter would use the gift card to make her room less care bear themed and more pre teen themed!

278 Jenny August 21, 2009 at 3:56 pm

We are in need of lots of changes at our home. We are expecting a baby in March. We will need to redo my son’s room and add bunk beds so there is room for his brother who is in the nursery at this point. Organizational shelves need to be added within the room perimeter to house all their toys, too.
If the baby is a girl, we want to redo the nursery in a girl theme, too.

279 Janet August 21, 2009 at 6:08 pm

I need to redo my living room bathroom and kitchen so I feel certain I could easily use the Walmart card to update any of these rooms. I have not done a thing to the place we call home and it has the same decor as 25 years ago! Funny thing is if you wait long enough some stuff comes back in style. That point aside I need to redo! I never win anything so I hope that my time has come and I get a chance to redo.
Thanks for a chance to put my name in the hat!

280 Nicole Miller August 21, 2009 at 6:34 pm

MY HOMESCHOOL ROOM! I am a homeschooling mother of 3, and I would love to make my homeschool room into a really enjoyable place to work! I would put in shelves, organize my materials, set up an inviting reading area, create work stations…Oh the thinks I could think!!

281 Jessica August 21, 2009 at 6:39 pm

I would buy a carpet shampooer and all natural cleaning supplies. We had a cat that pee’d all over our living right after we put new carpet in March 08. She also peed on the walls. The room smells horrible no matter what I do except when shamppoing often. Also, dd seems to be sensitive to the cleaners on the floor so I would need to get natural ones.

282 Michelle August 21, 2009 at 6:49 pm

I would love to redo my son’s bedroom. We would buy a bigger bed, bedding set, and night stand for sure. Thanks for the giveaway!

283 Jill August 21, 2009 at 6:59 pm

We just bought a new home and $500 would help us put our personal touch on the place!!

284 mom4reading August 21, 2009 at 7:01 pm

I would organize the office! It needs it! Thanks!

285 mdodson August 21, 2009 at 7:04 pm

I would fix up my youngest 2 daughters’ room. The 2 year old needs a “big girl” bed and then I could paint and get them matching bedding.

286 Angie Woulfe August 21, 2009 at 7:22 pm

I would finish my kitchen. I couldn’t stand the wall paper anymore so I ripped it down. Well then the van needed repaired so now my kitchen waits. I’m starting to homeschool my three boys for the first time next week and this is going to be their classroom!

287 Laurie Hoddy August 21, 2009 at 8:16 pm

I have a 100+ year-old house so I could spend $500 many times over! Right now, I would probably spend it on my living room, which needs new curtains, a new rug, and I would love to have matching end tables.

288 jill in chicago August 21, 2009 at 8:56 pm

I could use $500 from Wal Mart to eliminate the source of my son’s sinus problems (we suspect a dust allergy) by de-cluttering toys and beloved stuffed animals into storage tubs, repainting the new drywall ceiling and purchasing a HEPA air filter. My poor little guy hasn’t slept a full night in his life! Of course, we will do these things with or without the prize gift card, but it will be a stretch. Thanks, Lynnae, for spreading the wealth!

289 Amy Brewer August 21, 2009 at 10:14 pm

I have a tween who could use this on her bedroom also..I know what you mean about the little space some bedrooms have. Her’s is tiny but I think you made your daughters look bigger. Maybe I could do that also for my daughter..

290 Janice August 22, 2009 at 4:09 am

I would redo the room that currently serves as the computer room/craft room/storage room as it is in serious need of an overhaul. My goal is to utilize the area as a place to use my workout and dance DVDs.

291 CindyS August 22, 2009 at 4:16 am

Oh, there is no doubt in my mind that I would change my living room. Right now it is a mish mash of every style imaginable. When I moved in, I brought my stuff and just added it to R’s. Now we have a rather eclectic collection of pictures, lamps, etc.

292 Zenna August 22, 2009 at 5:46 am

I wd use the gift certificate to update our home schooling space with some new storage units and materials. My hubby lost his job last year and “new” things have been put aside. A fresh home school space would be a welcome addition to these gloomy times!

293 susan August 22, 2009 at 5:50 am

I would buy things for my family child care room.

294 Lauren August 22, 2009 at 6:38 am

I would make a small change to almost every room – every room in this house is lacking something and it drives me nuts! I’d buy bookshelves for my son’s room, a dresser for my husband for our bedroom, a bench for our entryway, and end tables for our living room.

295 Brandi Hershey August 22, 2009 at 8:35 am

I would use the GC to “re-do” the nursery into a “toddler/little girl” room. She is 18 months old and I’m starting to think about getting rid of some of the baby essentials and replace them with things like a toddler bed, small table with chairs, ect. Thanks for the chance to win.

296 Jesse Andrews August 22, 2009 at 8:37 am

I would take the gift card and donate supplies for kids going back to school.

297 Amber August 22, 2009 at 9:13 am

I would buy my girls new curtains and replace the fading, water stained trim in our window seats.

298 Carri August 22, 2009 at 10:38 am

I would attack my laundry room. It is downstairs off the garage and is constantly collecting dirt and cast-offs. I desperately need organization in there. Also I would love, love to update my front porch by painting the front door, adding a new welcome mat, and definitely having porch furniture. It would be nice for us to sit outside while the kids played in the front lawn.

299 CheapNLazy August 22, 2009 at 10:56 am

We’d love STORAGE for our DINING ROOM/ENTRY AREA!*

2 deep bookcases (to store FL hurricane supplies, backpacks and “landing pad” stuff), 2 large plastic totes (hurricane supplies), misc hooks (hats, leash, etc.) and an ~4′-long entry bench (with room for 8 pairs of shoes underneath).

*if we can’t spend the $ on food for dh/I (unemployed 16/11 mo) and tween son and daughter (share a bedroom).

-CheapNLazy
Striving to be resourceful with our family’s/earth’s resources.

300 Amber August 22, 2009 at 11:30 am

I would redo my downstairs bathroom. We need a new toilet and sink, and some painting would be excellent! As well as a big mirror overtop of the sink!

Thanks for the chance!

Amber

301 Dave August 22, 2009 at 12:18 pm

I would add curtains and new blinds to the windows in my house. My bathroom also needs a bit of remodeling!

Thanks for the chance to win!

302 Susan August 22, 2009 at 1:12 pm

I need blinds in my basement and office badly! The ones here are turquoise…verrrrry dated! Need other things too, but that would be the top thing, for sure.

303 Sarah Davis August 22, 2009 at 1:47 pm

I would get better lighting because it really makes a difference to work under a good light source. I would also get a lighter paint color to brighten the walls and make the room look larger. I also need a more functional desk to do my studying! Thanks for the opportunity from a needy university student!

304 Stacey Moltz August 22, 2009 at 2:11 pm

My study is hot and dreary. I would put up blackout curtains to block the heat and cut down on my electricity use. I would also paint the room in a “sunny” color. We have three people sharing the study. Crafts, writing, gift packaging, Bible study, sewing, and scrapbooking are just a few of the uses for our room. Oh, let me not forget organization… cubbies, shelves, closet, and containers!

305 Denise August 22, 2009 at 2:47 pm

I need to hang some vertical blinds for a glass door. Wall decor is also needed and perhaps a couple new lamps to replace my thrifty diy ones.

306 Debbie August 22, 2009 at 3:39 pm

I would buy paint, window and bed treatments and maybe a closet organizer for my messy bedroom !!! Would LOVE to win !!!

307 jim August 22, 2009 at 3:52 pm

i would use the gift card to do some needed repairs to the structure of my house. paint for the kitchen would be a start! some electrical supplies.shelves & decoration for home office & laundry room, bathroom. a general deco change for the house,

308 Jennifer August 22, 2009 at 5:39 pm

I would love to redo my kids bedroom(they share a room). It’s just a “mod-podge” of decorations. Thanks for the chance to win!

309 Heather August 22, 2009 at 5:46 pm

I would buy curtains for both the kids’ rooms, storage shelves for our basement, runner rugs for our basement and cute bedspreads for the kids’ rooms. And any other items that would help with our storage/organization! Glad I found your website and this great giveaway!

310 Bev August 22, 2009 at 7:45 pm

I would start with new blinds for the kitchen/dining room. We are making do with the ones we bought 18 years ago when we moved here. ACK!

311 Amber August 22, 2009 at 8:53 pm

With $500 I would buy new energy saver lightbulbs, “green” cleaning supplies, new kitchen towls in microfiber and maybe a set of new dishes. Then I have to say I would do the same for my parents. Our electric company is raising our rates so we are trying to cut down on electric use and be more “green” but it takes a bit of green to go green! :)

312 Sanjay August 22, 2009 at 8:59 pm

Oh God! I’d like to give away $500 too if I get the same amount, promise!

Anyways, I started remodelling my house last year with a whole new modular kitchen and even changing the closed kitchen into one seamlessly joining the drawing hall; new wall finishes, POP stuff on ceilings, a new Bed and two set of new mattresses and then -> money stopped growing on te tree :(

Here, I am waiting to upgrade my bathroms which are ancient and I’d like to replace them with atleast a mini bath-tub and a mini shower panel with floor and wall tiles replaced. Also, I badly need a comfy “for 4″ Dining so that I can stop keeping my laptop on my lap.

Amen!

313 cwaltz August 22, 2009 at 10:06 pm

I could really use a redo in our living room. I would paint the walls and put an area rug on the floor. I need some sort of art to go above the mantel. Additionally, I could use a sofa cover. It would be nice if I could find something more functional to store the kids games and the large books we use to store DVDs (preferably something with some doors so it does not look unsightly and still has an adult feel.)

Perhaps it would inspire the hubby to move the TV where I want it(requires some drilling and such for cable wires) and set up the entertainment center I bought on clearance.

314 Lori H. August 23, 2009 at 1:37 am

I would freshen up our dining room… to help encourge use of it!

315 Rachelle August 23, 2009 at 6:30 am

I would finally buy some furniture for my room. We have gotten everything for our kid’s rooms and now its time for us. A night stand would be nice.

316 Kristopher August 23, 2009 at 7:25 am

For $500 from Walmart I could do A LOT. Since storage is always an issue, I’d buy an armoire ($140) and some pop-up storage bins ($12 each): as you know, kid’s rooms collect ‘stuff’, so they’d used to store all of that.

In our family, we take TONS of pictures so I’d buy the collage photo frames ($28) and some general frilly decor for our little girl.

WalMart also has some great window coverings (which we desperately need) and some

I’d also love to get be able to get some baby gates and safety equipment for the house as she begins to crawl. We live in a townhouse so it’s very important to get the stair-gates ($70 x 2 = $140). We’d use the rest of the money for the miscellaneous safety equipment like kid guards for electric and toilet guards.

I could REALLY make $500 go a LONG way.

317 Amanda August 23, 2009 at 7:51 am

I think that I would use the $500 redecorate my master bedroom. I need a new comforter, mine is ripped and a new lamp and dresser would be great!

318 Jenny Johnson August 23, 2009 at 8:39 am

OMG! I would love to take down the wallpaper in my kitchen, and paint the colors I have been dreaming about! Nothing says home like a nice and inviting kitchen!

319 Becky August 23, 2009 at 9:10 am

I’m just moving into a new place so I could use it in so many ways… I would put up bookshelves in this little reading alcove. Also curtains would be nice. And a dresser.

320 Tanya August 23, 2009 at 10:11 am

I would love to refurbish my guest room!

321 cheflisa August 23, 2009 at 12:45 pm

area rugs to brighten my kitchen ,curtains to match and fresh coat of paint

322 Dawn August 23, 2009 at 1:13 pm

The big thing would be curtains, heavier ones for the winter. Fabric to redo the seats of my dining room chairs would follow.

323 Pat August 23, 2009 at 1:58 pm

New shower curtain, towels and accessories.

324 Ann August 23, 2009 at 2:03 pm

I would love to win a $500 gift card from Wal Mart to add new window coverings in two rooms, paint for two hallways, a bathroom, and a bedroom, and additionally to purchase storage bins. Thanks for the opportunity to enter.

325 Heather August 23, 2009 at 2:38 pm

I would finish my family room. We have cushions that need recovering, lamps, a table, and artwork.

326 Sweta August 23, 2009 at 3:47 pm

I would hang some nice pictures in the living room and throw some nice pillows on the couch.

327 Dddiva August 23, 2009 at 3:58 pm

Holy cow, I want someone to make my house or even kiddo’s room over then let me give away $$ on top of it. You are very blessed.

With $500 I’d let the littlest diva get a whole new bedroom dealio since that’s the intention of the giveaway and some of their stuff is really cute.
Not sure how well it is made or how long it will last, but I would love to find out.

328 Anita Brown August 23, 2009 at 6:32 pm

I woulduse the gift card to update my kichen/family room with paint curtains placemats AND A RUG

329 Alan August 24, 2009 at 2:38 am

Your article on this blog is fantastic.
Well done! I’m a big fan of your blog and be sure to keep up the great work.
I plan on returning and linking to your site.
Sincerely,

330 sarah August 24, 2009 at 6:02 am

I would use the gift card to update my bedroom into a more relaxing and romantic space. I would love for my bedroom to look closer to a hotel room and much less like a morgue for “HAND ME DOWN” items (useful, but not my style). It would be lovely to have a romantic room since I am a newlywed. Thanks!

331 stephanie August 24, 2009 at 8:49 am

I would paint my bedroom, kitchen, and my daughter’s room. Then I would buy blackout curtains for our homeschool room and our living room. It really gets hot in those two rooms. I’d put new shelving in my pantry, to help organize things better.

332 Kara Dykstra August 24, 2009 at 8:55 am

Awesome choices – her room looks great! With the gift card I would make over my dining room. A new table and some decorations would be great.

333 Julie Smith August 24, 2009 at 9:17 am

My daughter is wanting to redo her room with a “desk under the bunk/raised bed” if possible, to make more room, and get a new dresser. Some new curtains, rug and bed linens would also round out the repainted walls. :-)
What a nice gift. Thanks for the chance!

334 Michelle August 24, 2009 at 9:25 am

The kids rooms need curtains, storage, comforters, rugs, maybe new pillows, too.

335 Rachael August 24, 2009 at 10:59 am

I would redo the room of my two toddler daughters to give them more play space and organization. Thanks for the chance to win!

336 Catherine August 24, 2009 at 11:39 am

I would love to be able to give my new bedroom a make-over. I recently moved and the mismatched hand-me-down furniture is starting to get me down. I have been very frugal with my furniture, but I think $500 would be a great start to get some matching nightstands and some luxurious curtains (so I can stop waking up at 6am on the weekends).

337 Donna Manning August 24, 2009 at 1:09 pm

I have a 31 year old son who is permanently disabled from a rare illness that started 20 years ago. We had to makeshift a bedroom for him as he got older, because he will live with us forever.
If I had $500.00, I would paint his room, replace his old worn out blinds, and get some insulated drapes to cover the atrium door that is his “windows”. It gets too hot and too cold in there, depending on the season! I would also buy him some matching bedding, since all he has is old mismatched bedding. Finally, if I had any money left, I would buy him a free standing closet since his room has no closet.
I would love to win this giveaway and do something special for my “special” son.

338 Deb McElhany August 24, 2009 at 1:19 pm

I would use it to redo my girls’ bathroom. They are short on towels and the rugs could use an updating!

339 Beth from CT August 24, 2009 at 3:58 pm

After 30 years of marriage and 4 kids, many items are worn out. I would start with new dinnerware, the plastic just isn’t cutting it. New mixing bowls, curtains, area rugs; I could go on and on. The kids are young enough that all are still at home, we would make good use of a gift card.

340 DONNA ADAMS August 24, 2009 at 5:34 pm

I would love to repaint my living room, my husband decided that a rosey pink would look good and I feel like someone’s poking me with needles when i am in this room.

341 Amy August 24, 2009 at 7:13 pm

I would love new towels for the bath and new quilts for
the bedroom…..some window treatments, a few organizers
and I’d be all set!

342 Cindy Carner August 24, 2009 at 7:15 pm

I would like to put up some window treatments in a couple of rooms to help block the sunlight – and save on our utility bills.

343 amy August 24, 2009 at 8:10 pm

Such a nice give-away! Most needed in my house: curtains for our windows (since we don’t have any in any rooms except one), furniture for our living room, and a small desk for my daughter so she could have an easier (and fun!) time working on her elementary homework.

344 Christa August 24, 2009 at 8:17 pm

So many ways to make $500 uplift a family’s spirits–whether mine or someone else’s in need! Home is the center of family and each room in my house would get a little something, probably along these lines:

Kids’ bedrooms: new comforters, sheets, and curtains that match their current interests i.e. trucks, Pokemon, Bakugan, Star Wars, etc.

Kids’ bathroom: new fixtures, shower curtain, towels

Kitchen: A toaster oven

Dining room: new table or have I exceeded $500 by now?

Living room: some pillows and new lamps

I’ll leave the Master Bathroom and Bedroom alone for now but they too could use a bit here and there!

345 Rebecca Larsen August 25, 2009 at 12:01 am

I would definitly have to get new blinds. Between dogs and kids, they really need to be… well … redone. I would also see if there is a toddler bed for my 3 year old. She is sleeping on a small mattress on the floor right now. Maybe a carpet cleaner to make our carpet clean again. Thanks!

346 Christine August 25, 2009 at 8:11 am

I would make over my sewing/guest room so my family had a comfy place to stay when they visited. I have an ancient futon in there now that is so flat and hard. And the closet is huge but really isn’t set up for proper organization so the room is cluttered with bins of fabric that would be better stored in the closet.

347 Courtenay August 25, 2009 at 9:57 am

If I won this $500 gift card the first thing I would do is get a new tv stand for the living room. My fiance’s had it for years but it is on its last rolling caster and it is too wobbly. I’m always afraid the tv will fall off. After that, we would have to redo our guest bedroom so it can actually be a bedroom and not just a junk repository.
Thanks!

348 Sharon Konkus August 25, 2009 at 12:00 pm

I would love to go to Walmart and make over my dining room with new curtains and a dining room buffet or stand to store my dishes in . Corelle ware from Walmart. I would love to be able to do that. New silverware plus , I could really make it go at Walmart . Make a place for my scrapbooking. Thank you Sharon

349 Valerie August 25, 2009 at 12:21 pm

We’ve been in our place for over 2 years and I still haven’t decorated the walls of either bedroom or bathroom. They are VERY plain. I would also buy a new floor lamp or two, as I can’t sit on the one end of the couch in the evening because it is too dark to read. I also need to stock my kitchen—the pans we have SORELY need replaced for as much cooking as I do and none of our dishes, plates or cups match.

350 Jennifer August 25, 2009 at 2:07 pm

Lots of things… but I think I would get some seating for my basement to make it less of the kids toy/play storage room and a little more cozy!

351 Colleen August 25, 2009 at 2:16 pm

I’d buy something to put on my bedroom walls! We moved into our house almost 2 years ago and it is still bare bones. Some colorful paint for the walls, maybe some photo collage frames to make it a retreat instead of a cell!

352 Eileen August 25, 2009 at 8:01 pm

I would decorate my girls’ room. They don’t have anything on their walls at the moment. They could use some organization help for their toys/stuffed animals etc. It would be so fun!

353 Margie August 25, 2009 at 8:08 pm

Well, with $500 I would get storage and other closet organizers for my two boys (8 years and 6 months) who just started sharing a room! There is WAY too much stuff in there!

Thanks for the chance to win!

354 Dana August 25, 2009 at 8:33 pm

I would use it to spruce up the family room. It needs new drapes, light fixtures, attractive storage for movies, extra blankets, and all the things it takes to be both family friendly and effecient

355 Bart Henry August 25, 2009 at 8:35 pm

I’ve moved into the guest room at my mother’s place to save money. She has two single beds in there. I’m back home permanently but don’t have the cash to make a workspace…which is what I want…move out one of the beds and buy a desk, workchair, lamp, etc. to do my computer work in comfort. Thanks!

356 monica August 26, 2009 at 6:39 am

I would use it for our bedroom. I homeshool and those things are kept in my bedroom. So I would buy things to organize with. Also some paint and curtains and such.
monk5 at charter dot net

357 Rachel August 26, 2009 at 8:17 am

I would get a new comforter, and change my bedroom “theme” for the first time in years.

358 mary August 26, 2009 at 11:37 am

where to start? probably with paint…..the whole inside of my house needs a new coat of paint – all of the walls are white and boring. would love to update my old and raggedy sheets and towels and add inviting throws, pillows and indoor plants to make the house more comfy

359 Anne Marie @ Married to the Empire August 26, 2009 at 12:46 pm

I need curtains for my bedroom, new linens for the dining table I just bought, some new pillow shams for the bed… That’s just for starters. ;-)

360 Jenni August 26, 2009 at 3:25 pm

I would put it towards our bathroom re-model. We are needing to re-paint, update the fiixtures, tile, etc.

361 FIRE Finance August 26, 2009 at 5:32 pm

Will use it for remodelling our home office. Also, perhaps would buy a bean bed if we win :).
THanks for the giveaway.
Cheers,
FIRE

362 Emily August 26, 2009 at 7:06 pm

My daughters, 3 & 5, share a room. I would use the gift card to make their room prettier and more girly (via wall decorations, bed clothes) and to try to organize the toys that seems to always wind up on the floor.

363 Annie August 26, 2009 at 8:39 pm

I would would build a cabinet inside the fireplace chase for the video equipment and I would finally hang the TV above the fireplace. It is taking up too much floor space and it would hide the equipment… plus it would have extra storage and a plug for the rechargeable floor vac / dustbuster.

364 Melanie August 27, 2009 at 1:38 pm

All 4 of my kids and my husband and I could use new comforters, plus paint for the bedrooms and basement.

365 K. L. J. August 27, 2009 at 8:37 pm

I would purchase area rugs for our living and family rooms to make it easier for my 6 month-old to have somewhere soft to sit, play, and land. I would also purchase new storage containers for my 6 and 9 year olds so they can keep their toys safely out of their sister’s reach. Finally, I would treat my husband and myself to new bedroom linens.

366 DG August 27, 2009 at 10:53 pm

I would change up our recreational room. It’s seriously lacking. It should be more fun, more laid back and have a better couch and more lighting! :)

367 Dee August 28, 2009 at 5:57 am

Thanks for the chance! I’m in love with the Your Zone Comforter Set, Black & White Geo!

368 Meagan August 28, 2009 at 6:01 am

I’d probably spruce up our bedroom and add a few fun touches to the baby’s room, too!

369 Kathryn Carpenter August 28, 2009 at 6:24 am

My husband is working 3 jobs and we have a baby on the way! We’ve been stressing about having the money to prepare a toddler room for our three year old before the new baby arrives. The baby will soon occupy his space. We need it all-paint, curtains, weather stripping for windows to block drafts, safety gear for the windows .

370 Kate August 28, 2009 at 6:29 am

I’d use $500 to purchase a bookshelf for all my beloved books that have been languishing in storage since we moved over a year ago, and anything left over would go toward curtains, picture frames, and generally making our house more comfortable.

371 Monica M. August 28, 2009 at 6:33 am

I would doing something in the boys room. Right now it is just blue and very boring. Thanks so much for this drawing.
Monica M.

372 Lisa August 28, 2009 at 6:35 am

I would love to decorate my living room/office!

I would look for a few storage solutions for my kids bedrooms so that they can manage the clutter a little more efficiently. I’d also like to add a few colorful touches to my kitchen.

374 Sheena August 28, 2009 at 7:24 am

I would work on our spare bedroom which has all old stuff and nothing matches. I would also get a new rug for our living room. The one we use now is from my college dorm room.

I would buy new sheets and bedroom decor for the master bedroom!

376 Cyndi B August 28, 2009 at 7:33 am

I’d spruce up the basement and add more bookcases. I’d also like to add a sewing area. Nothing fancy, just a dedicated space for the sewing machine and projects.

I would try to bring organization to our sun room turned playroom in our house. Two of our children have had the misfortune of loosing their homes due to these hard economic times and have had to move back into our home. We have two families (beside ourselves) and 4 grand children living with us and all their “stuff”! I need something that would help keep their stuff organized.

Thanks for the opportunity.

I would redo my boys room! They share a bedroom and it is very small. We have considered bunk beds but it is not currently in the budget.

379 Tami August 28, 2009 at 7:58 am

We moved into our house 15 years ago and I haven’t done a single thing to the master bedroom since! Needless to say, it is long overdue for some new decor. I, of course, am trying to pay off our debt, so this will not be done for a couple of years … that is, unless I win the Walmart card!

380 Mari August 28, 2009 at 8:09 am

I would finish decorating my living room and buy lots of storage bins for the rest of the house.

381 Becky August 28, 2009 at 8:15 am

I would do something with our living/dining room. We have never had the money to do anything with it. Naked, white walls, and no curtains on 2 out of the 3 windows. I really hate it!

382 Ma Val August 28, 2009 at 8:36 am

I’d revamp my office/craft room. I need storage bins or shelves. Something to get the heaps of the floor and organized better! Thanks!

383 Becky August 28, 2009 at 9:40 am

Closet systems for the whole house!

384 Bill August 28, 2009 at 10:33 am

We have a downstairs den with a dresser and a table. I like that it is roomy (because it has very little furniture) but I’d also like to add something that would allow us to accomodate over-night guests without making the room too cramped. Maybe a pull-out sofa or a narrow daybed or futon.

I would definitely start by finishing our master bath. It could really use some shelving, new towels, and a new shower curtain. I would also get some kitchen organization tools and a bulletin board to keep track of our family schedule! Boy could I use this!

386 laura August 28, 2009 at 12:16 pm

I would start with decorating my walls! They are all so bare. I would also get some more knick-knacks that are kid friendly to give my house a more finished look.

387 Erica August 28, 2009 at 12:30 pm

If I had $500 to make over anything in my house, it would probably be a combination of a new sofa or bed, and mostly decor. We recently redid our kitchen, tiling the floors, redoing the cabinet and hardware, and have redone the bathroom as well. Hope to win!

388 Irene Forman August 28, 2009 at 11:00 pm

I would actually put the $500 into making my office a more organized place, my poor daughters try to do their homework on their cluttered cheapie broken computer desk, as I work from home, on my cluttered cheapie computer desk. I would also get baskets to tame the clutter and do something with all the mess! Yikes! $500 would go a long way in helping me redo, revamp, revitalize this tired over-stuffed space.

Hi! I would use this money to decorate my daughters room although she is almost a year old I wasn’t able to finish her room because she arrived early!

392 Dana Newburn August 31, 2009 at 12:20 pm

I would use it for our baby room. We are planning on getting pregnant soon and this would help tremendously! The only thing that is holding us back now is the money to buy some nicer things for the baby.

393 SmileyGirl September 1, 2009 at 8:16 am

If I were to win the $500 gift card I would use the money to purchaes shelving. My husband loves books and movies and of course those always end up in piles. I would create a library of sorts for all the books and a space for all the DVDs. Having the ability to store all these items in an easily accessible location and space would be a dream come true! Love the room ideas too!

I am a single mother of four. I left there father 9 years ago to give them a better life. I have a son who is 15 and still sleeps on the floor in his sisters room. We have tried buying him a blow up matress and he seems to make holes in them all . I think intentionally . I feel he would love to have a nice comfortable bed and a space of his own . He has a room in the basement and will not go down there and sleep . There is a bed down there but that one is hard and uncomfortable . He also says he doesnt like all the spiders . I think he would sleep down ther if he had a room decorated and comfortable to be in . I feel he is afraid of the being alone to but if we can make it nice for him it may take that away. There is also a side room that I would like to turn into a bathroom for him . Living with four girls can be a strain on him im sure. I love him with all my heart and just want him to be happy and comfortable when he sleeps. Every kid deserves a good night sleep.

This is the kind of thing I try to teach people. Can I count on a sequel?
