Menu Plan Monday: An Update & New Menu

frugal menu plan

Last week went pretty well.  I rearranged the dinner plan a bit, and we did eat out on one particularly hectic day.  But for the most part, we stuck to the meals I had written down.

We didn’t stick to the breakfast and lunch plans very closely though.  I found that I do just fine, as long as there are groceries in the house.  We managed to eat healthy meals for breakfast and lunch all week, though.

Given that I don’t tend to stick with breakfast and lunch menus closely, but tend to make the same breakfasts and lunches over and over, I’m not going to include breakfast and lunch in my menu plan this week.  But don’t worry!  We rarely eat out for breakfast or lunch!

Menu Plan:  August 10 – August 16

Monday:  Pasta, peaches, vegetables (it has to be easy, because Frugal Coast2Coast starts at 5:30 PST).

Tuesday:  Barbeque steak, baked potatoes, sauteed mushrooms, salad.

Wednesday:  Bean Burritos, corn, salad.

Thursday:  Roast Beef (in slow cooker), mashed potatoes, green beans.

Friday:  Homemade Pizza, salad.

Saturday:  Hamburgers, fruit, baby carrots, chips

Sunday:  Leftovers

I’m not trying any fancy recipes this week, as I’m cleaning out the pantry and cooking tried and true family favorites.  Now I just need to find time between homeschool lessons to get to the grocery store!

For more Menu Plan Monday, head over to I’m an Organizing Junkie!

And speaking of homeschooling, that’s our topic on Frugal Coast2Coast tonight!  Our guest is The Happy Housewife, who will be answering your homeschooling questions!  So if you have any questions about homeschooling, post them here!  And then be sure to listen in at 8:30 EST/ 5:30 PST on Blog Talk Radio!

Nice menu. However, we usually make a big dinner on Sunday and have the leftovers on Monday . . .

My favorite CrockPot recipe is this Pot Roast that we make all the time. It is absolutely amazing + extremely simple. Because it has the vegetables (carrots, mushrooms, potatoes) & meat all in one, it makes it so easy to pop in before we head to work & then just serve when we get home.

If you have a little time, put this bread out after lunch & let it rise until dinner. It’s similarly easy (I’m a big fan of easy) & a great companion to the roast. :)

It does look good, doesn’t it? I wish I could take credit, but it’s a picture that I found on flickr when I searched for “bean burrito.”

It does sound like you are making some progress! Keep it up! I would love to know how you make your homemade pizza, because I want to make it also. It’s really not frugal to buy takeout pizza, and homemade HAS to taste better and it could be healthier, also.

I like the changes to your site. Good job.

My homemade pizza is basically:

Buy or make a crust. I keep wanting to try the crust found here:
http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/A.....etail.aspx
Add sauce, cheese, and whatever we have in the house that would taste good on pizza. It’s a great way to use up veggies and random left over meat.

And I knew some astute reader would notice the site changes. It’s still a work in progress, but so far I like it too! Thanks!

Keep up the good work. Eating at home as often as possible is the key to good health and a controlled food budget. Cooking and eating with others can’t be beat. Thanks for the update.

Thanks for the link to the pizza dough recipe! I’m definitely going to try it very soon.

You know, it occurs to me that you could “reward” yourself for cooking at home, by putting the money you would spend on take-out or at a restaurant into a separate account, and use it for Christmas or something nice for your family, or you could even add it to your Emergency Fund.

I’m coming to your house for dinner! I’d planned on making Chili on Sunday and reinvesting it in tacos for Monday but it was just WAY too hot to deal with the heat in a small kitchen so tonight we had $1 burgers from the local burger kind. Hey, sometimes it works when you stick to the cheap side of the menu and make your own sides.
