Glad to read your happy report of your trip! Our family of four went to DW last year with a $1600 budget (that included tix to parks). We stayed in a timeshare ($180) for the week, and by only spending cash and being conscious of how we spent it, we ended up coming home with $400 left from our $1600 budget! We ate all breakfasts and dinners at the timeshare but splurged for lunches in the parks. We let the kids each have $10 a day to spend on whatever they wanted - food or toys, but in the end they only spent about $35 each the whole WEEK). We'll definitely be going again in a couple years - our son was a bit small to ride some of the bigger rides this time around.

i am so glad you and your family enjoyed disneyland. i live like 25 miles away from disneyland but i go there whenever i get a chance. my friend and i save money for the annual pass so we can go whenever we want. we always bring our own sandwiches and a bottle of drink, once our packed food is finished we will eat at the disney princess restaurant because we love the fried chicken there.

I love Soaring over CA too. I raise my feet to go over the trees and I breathe deep when we soar over the groves. This is my favorite ride...if you don't count anything in DisneLand proper...Course there is that elevator drop that made my purse fly above my face...but in Disneyland proper...Pirates has it hands down!!!

I agree that it's to much to lug around all your meals. What works for me is to have a bunch of cereal bars in my purse for when the kids (or me) want a snack in between meals at the park.

We have passes and go to Disneyland and California Adventre frequently, usually for less than a day, which is a slightly different experience than your 5 day blow out. However, these are my tips: 1st, any place where you fill your own soda will let you get one free refill (currently that's the Pizza Port and Rancho Zocolo, both in Disneyland). 2nd, any place that sells fountain drinks will give you a free glass of ice and/or ice water (depending on the cast member). 3rd, Disneyland does NOT care what food you bring into the parks, as long as you aren't bringing in glass or knives. 4th, if you are willing to walk out of the park there is a McDonalds right outside of the main gate that has normal McDondalds prices. (Right outside the gate is not exactly super super close, about a 15 minute walk from the main entrance of either park). Those are my tips for saving money on food.

Great advice and commentary. Also took our kids when they were a bit older, and it made for a very enjoyable experience. And, we chose mid-October, another good time to avoid loooonnng lines and high temps.
