Friday Linkfest: Still Without Hot Water Edition

For those of you who didn’t hear about my hot water heater saga, our hot water heater died last Saturday.  After spending the long weekend without any running water, the plumber came over and took a look at things.

The home warranty company is going to cut us a check for the replacement cost of our old water heater, since they can’t locate the exact model of water heater.  The plumber was having a hard time locating a water heater that would work in our house, so he fixed things to where we could have running water, but no hot water.  That’s been our life since Tuesday.  This morning our new water heater will be installed.

Meanwhile, I still haven’t heard back from American Home Shield to see how much they will be reimbursing us.  They said it would take up to 48 hours.  48 hours was yesterday afternoon.  Hopefully we hear back today.  All I can say is I will be thrilled to have hot water again!

Congratulations on getting your hot water back. You never realize how important it is until you don’t have it!!

Thanks for the link!

There are a lot of little things that we take for granted, that when we lose them it’s a bit shocking to the system… hot water, flush toilets, electricity, kitchen appliances.. Glad you are getting your hot water back.

We lost hot water for a while during a Chicago winter once – it was awful. I’m so glad that yours is coming back on today – hot showers will feel very nice.

We were without hot water for 6 months after the hurricane. We spent a little extra and went to Lowes and got a tankless water heater. It sure saves money, it heats continually but only when the hot water valve is open. Never run out of hot water in the shower again!

What was it like to live without hot water? Did you bite the bullet and take cold showers? Heat up some water on the stove and sponge bath?

I was without hot water recently, but the gas company quickly replaced the meter so we were only without hot water for a couple days.

It really made me think about how much we take for granted.

Kinda like the water freezing up here in the winters…. but at least I had a creek to run down to for ‘flushing’ water… and a woodstove to heat water on. And the nice thing about our small town, is that when we have these ‘freeze events’, the local YMCA opens up to the whole community and allows free showers there :) Nice :)

Glad you have family nearby – and hope you are soon back in order. It’s actually a good lesson for the kids on how to get along without – and something they’ll remember for a long time.

Living without hot water wasn’t too bad, only because my dad lives one street over, and he graciously let us use his house for showers.

But washing the dishes by heating water on the stove wasn’t much fun.

I feel your pain. We had a hot water outage for two days a few months ago . . . very fast, eye opening showers!
