Weekend Roundup: Post-Choir Concert Edition

by Lynnae on April 4, 2009 · 5 comments

Thursday evening I had the opportunity to an all-school district choir performance at our local high school.  Students from the choirs in 5 elementary schools, 2 middle schools, and the high school performed.  My daughter was in one of the elementary school choirs.

I was amazed at the performance!  These kids were GOOD!  At all levels.  They were singing rounds and harmonies, and the high schoolers even did some a cappella work.  I’m so glad that our school district still has a music program in all the schools!

Blog of the Week

The next blog in my feed reader is pretty well known.  One of the first personal finance blogs I’ve ever read, this blog inspired me in many ways to create my own blog.  The blog of the week is:

Get Rich Slowly

J.D., who writes Get Rich Slowly has chronicled his journey out of debt and into the life of a self-employed blogger.  I’ve had the privilege of interviewing him on Frugal Coast2Coast, and now he has his own Blog Talk Radio show with Jim of Bargaineering, The Personal Finance Hour.

If you’ve never read Get Rich Slowly, take a look at the archives.  There is lots of good information to read.  It will keep you busy for days.

News of Note

The final round of Free Money Finance’s March Madness competition is on! The two finalists are both blogging friends of mine.  Gibble, with his post Do You Appreciate What You Have?, is up against Pete, with the post 10 Things I Have Learned About Money.  Go read both posts, and then vote for the one you like best!

Walmart is celebrating Earth Month by holding a contest for schools! If your child’s school is doing something that has a positive impact on the environment, write it down and enter.  Your school could win a $500 gift card and the chance to win a $20,000 grant.  In this day and age, I think almost all schools could use the money!

Speaking of schools, if you know a college student that needs help with tuition, check out Upromise’s Tuition Tales contest. Make a short video detailing your personal tuition tales, and you could be eligible to win $10,000 for college tuition!  Details are on the site.

And last week I also forgot to link back to the Carnival of Personal Finance! Better late than never, I guess.  The Carnival was hosted by Four Pillars, and he included a post from my blog, The Very Basics of Asset Allocation, which Four Pillars actually wrote for me while I was away.  I’m not very knowledgeable about investing, so I love it when he writes basic investing posts for me!

The Roundup

I finally got back into my blog reading groove this week, and I have a few great articles picked out for your perusal.

Enjoy the weekend!  I’ll be visiting old friends and watching my kids participate in the AWANA games this weekend!  Should be lots of fun!  See you all Monday!

I went and voted…but it was difficult! As a special education teacher, appreciating what you have goes far beyond material wealth.
