TGIF: Grand Prix Weekend

by Lynnae on January 23, 2009 · 3 comments

This weekend my kids are participating in their first AWANA Grand Prix.  They’ll be putting the finishing touches on their cars today, and they’ll wake up bright and early tomorrow for the races!  The whole family is looking forward to it.

My son is especially excited, as he is a huge racing fan.  NASCAR, Mario Kart Wii, Hot Wheels…it doesn’t matter.  If it races, he loves it.  So it should be a fun weekend!

Blog of the Week

As we work through my feed reader, the next of the M-Network blogs I’d like to highlight is:

Gather Little By Little

Gather Little By Little is written by Gibble, a Christian husband and father of 6, who is working his way out of debt.  His site focuses on money management from a Christian perspective.  So if you’re looking for sound financial advice that’s in line with what the Bible says, head on over to Gather Little by Little. It’s a great site, and it’s on my “must read daily” list.

News of Note

~A few weeks ago I hinted that I was considering rolling out a deals blog that included grocery stores we have in the PNW.  Well, I’m still working out the kinks, but I’ve started blogging at www.beingfrugal.net/dealsI’ll be posting all kinds of deals I find throughout the day, including online, drugstore, and grocery deals and free samples.

Since we don’t have a CVS, there will be no CVS deals, but I will include stores such as Albertson’s, Fred Meyer, Walmart, Walgreens, and anything else I happen to come across.

The deals will not come through on the main Being Frugal feed, so if you’re interested in email or RSS updates, you’ll have to subscribe to the deals feed.

~Speaking of new features, I’m also rolling out the Being Frugal.net Forums today. My hope is that the forums will become a place where we can all encourage each other in our desire to be more frugal!  You can also post deals there, and when I get a chance, I’ll put them up on the deals blog!  You’ll need to register to post, just to keep the spammers at bay, but I promise not to use your email for anything, other than warning you about site maintenance.

I’ve asked a few questions to get things going over there, so head on over and take a look!  And I’ve added links to my blogs and the forums to the navigation bar, so it’s easy to move between sites.

~Patrick is giving away a two copies of Tax Cut by H&R Block at Cash Money Life. All you have to do is tell him how you’d change the tax code for a chance to enter.

~Jesse from You Need a Budget Pro noticed all the budget talk on Being Frugal.net this week, and wanted to let you all know about some updates to the YNAB Pro software.  The latest version of YNAB Pro allows for easier auto-categorization and manages payees much better. You can bet I’ll be upgrading soon!

New Blogs

It seems to be the week of new blogs!  I’ve learned of three new blogging ventures by blogging friends this week.

  • David from My Two Dollars started Simple. Organized. Life. The focus is on, well, simple, organized living.  I know this is a blog I will be following closely!
  • My friend Lunette, a local preschool teacher, started a blog called Wee Cookery. The content will be focused on cooking with young children.  Lunette is creative and very frugal, so I’m sure those of you with younger children will enjoy her posts.
  • And congratulations to Donna Freedman, mainly known for her work on MSN’s Smart Spending blogShe has been awarded her own column on MSN Money, called “Living With Less.” Donna has always given great advice for frugal living, so this will be a column to watch!
