TGIF: The Snow Day That Wasn’t Edition

by Lynnae on December 19, 2008 · 13 comments

Yesterday I woke up bright and early, anticipating a huge snowstorm.  The weatherman had been talking about it all week.  We were supposed to get 5 inches of snow on the valley floor! That’s unheard of here in Southern Oregon!

When I woke up at 4:45 a.m. (yes, I do realize that’s way early!), there was 1/2 inch of snow in patches throughout my yard, mostly left over from Wednesday. I checked the school website.  2 hour delay.  I turned off my daughter’s alarm and grabbed a cup of coffee.

Two hours later, the same 1/2 inch of snow (in patches) was on the ground.  The weather reports were all doom and gloom.  5 inches of snow was definitely coming, they said.  I checked the school website.  School went from delayed to canceled!

The kids stayed home yesterday.  It started to snow, but none of it stuck.  Then it started to rain.  By the end of the school day (or what would have been a school day), there was exactly no snow on the ground. I guess the storm missed us!  Hopefully as you read this (I’m writing on Thursday night), my kids are off to school!  I’d hate to think they’ll miss their class Christmas parties!

Post of the Week

This week, being the typical busy week before Christmas, didn’t leave me much time to read blog posts this week.  But yesterday when I was browsing the feeds in my reader, I saw this post and knew it had to be the post of the week.  It’s the kind of compassion meets politics post that I love to ponder on this blog. So without further ado, the post of the week is:

Is it your job to prevent the Big 3 from going under? at Christian PF

What do you think?

Other News of Note

I completely forgot to mention this last week, and it’s definitely worthy of mention.  I’ve gotten several compliments on my new site design, and I wanted to point out that Pete from Bible Money Matters designed my fabulous new logo! You can see his work at his logo design siteI highly recommend his work! He is quick, and his rates are very reasonable!  Thanks, Pete!

I’m going to be posting at the One Dollar Give tomorrow. Make sure you check it out, and it’s not too late to participate!

Petit Elefante is doing 12 days of Christmas giveaways. Head on over to see what you can win!

Tuesday a local reporter followed me around as I did my Albertson’s shopping. I think I impressed them with my stellar use of The Grocery Game.  I don’t know when the article will post, but I’ll link you when it does.  It was pretty exciting for me.

Still looking for the perfect frugal gift? Kingdom First Mom has some gift ideas to save others money! You can’t beat that, if you want to spread the frugal love around!

Finally, I’ve been having some problems with my RSS feed.  If you read this in Bloglines, will you please leave a comment, so I know you’re getting your Being Frugal feed? Also, I’m aware that the link to leave a comment that is supposed to appear in the feed isn’t appearing.  It doesn’t seem that Google is being very responsive to the problem, so I’m not sure how long it will be missing.  Just know that if you read Being Frugal in a feed reader, and you want to leave a comment, you can click on the title of the post, and it will take you right to the comment page.  Thanks for being patient.  I’m frustrated, but there’s not much I can do from my end.

That’s about it for this week!  Have a wonderful weekend!

Lol! I wonder what all the school kids had to do to bribe the weatherman to give such a gloom and doom forecast :)

Thanks so much for the mention, Lynnae! Your new design looks awesome.

By the way, your front yard is enviable, it’s so big! (well, compared to mine, anyway)

Love your posts. Read my posts in my email account, I don’t think there is supposed to be an add comment button and there wasn’t. Oh and I am from Canada and we chuckle at your petty snow days…check out this picture of my neighbours house last year:

That snow you were looking for? It’s up here in Moo-town….
It snowed off and on here all day – even snow on the beaches.
We actually had school tho. But today is another story – this morning
there is 3 inches of snow on the ground – in downtown Tillamook! Outer areas are a lot worse. No school. One of the company truck drivers is coming to pick me up for work – I’m sure not driving in this. Road report says slick ice under the snow… YUCK!

Stay warm! I am sooooo thankful for my woodstove and this beautiful wood that burns almost all night thru!

Thanks, everyone, for letting me know what’s happening with your feeds! The “add a comment” is back in my reader this morning, too, so all is well! And it makes me feel better to know that my Bloglines subscribers are receiving their feeds, even though I don’t see it reflected in feedburner.

@Alyssa – Shhhhh….that’s not actually my house. I grabbed the photo off Flickr. But I do have a big front yard, and that’s about what it looked like yesterday.

@Connie – No, you don’t get a comment link in email. And wow, that’s a ton of snow! Let me guess…the school was still open? LOL

@Marci – Now I know where the snow is! Be safe! We have snow over ice today, too. Less than a quarter inch, but the roads are worse today, because it rained yesterday and then snowed overnight, and now we have nasty ice. So far it’s a 2 hour delay for the schools this morning.

Good to hear the gremlins messing with the feeds/comments have been sent packing. Also, please do stay warm! It rarely snows in the part of Texas I live in, but when it does, the local media goes crazy. You’d think it was another ice age…

Hi Lynnae! Thanks for stopping by! I’ve been catching up around here tonight. You really have a lot of great information. It’s awesome how you’ve grown.

I subscribe in Bloglines and it always feeds just fine.

Merry Christmas to you and yours!

If it’s snow you’re looking for, come visit me in Spokane. According to AccuWeather.com we have accumulated 31.1 inches in the past five days (23.6 on Wed and Thurs) and according to the forcasters here (who can’t seem to predict anything right), we’re supposed to get another 3-6 inches tonight. Please come take some off this snow away!!!!
