The One Dollar Give

The One Dollar Give

It’s December 1, and the Christmas season has officially arrived.  It’s at this time of year I begin to look for ways to fight the commercialism that’s become Christmas and look for ways to give back instead.

This year, the way to give back arrived in my email inbox.  A few weeks ago, Mandi from Doodles’ Place and Tara from Deal Seeking Mom emailed me to see if I’d participate in 31 days of giving.  Since I’m all for giving, I jumped on board.  And I hope you will too.

Here’s what’s going on.  Mandi and Tara set up a website at www.onedollargive.com to share all the details.  Each day a different charity will be featured, and readers are encouraged to give just one dollar to the featured charity of the day.

I really like this concept, because it shows that even a little bit can make a big difference. So often, I think, people choose not to give, because they don’t feel they have a lot to give.  After all, what difference is a dollar going to make?

But when my dollar is added to your dollar and those dollars are added to more dollars given across the internet, the impact could be huge!

So this year, as the economy and charities are hurting, I ask you to consider giving up one meal out.  Or maybe give up one small Christmas gift.  In the grand scheme of things, $31 isn’t that much. Please consider joining me and others in giving one dollar a day for the month of December.

And if you’d like to publicize the One Dollar Give on your own blog, feel free to grab the button off the One Dollar Give blog!  Let’s see what kind of difference one dollar a day can make!
