I can’t wait for some pumpin pie on Thursday!
Holiday planning is in full swing at the Being Frugal household. My daughter has already done her Christmas shopping and has her presents wrapped. I’m not far behind, having done my shopping. Nothing is wrapped yet, though.
We’re madly making Thanksgiving plans. I’m hosting a party of 8 this year and looking forward to it. There’s a lot of work to be done before Thursday, though. I plan on making most of my menu ahead of time, so I can relax and visit on Thanksgiving day.
If you want to make some of your menu ahead of time, check out this recipe for Day Before Mashed Potatoes! They’re the best mashed potatoes I’ve ever had!
Post of the Week
As usual, it was difficult to choose the post of the week this week. In the end, I went with a post that not only contained great advice, but made me laugh as well. The post of the week is:
Tips for Working From Home at Gather Little by Little
The sad thing is that I break almost all of the rules…except for the ones at the end of the article…most of the time, anyway. :)
News of Note
Don’t forget that the M-Network has something planned on Monday! Be sure to check back here to find out what the big surprise is!
I also have big plans for Wednesday in conjunction with Elevenmoms. I know it’s the day before Thanksgiving, so you’re all going to be busy, but I can assure you, you’re not going to want to miss this!
Enough of the cryptic talk. In other news, some of you may have noticed the new “Freebies” link on the navigation menu. Check that link periodically for free samples. There’s nothing more frugal than free, right?
Also, I’m headed in to our local Christian radio station to do an interview today. I’m not sure yet when the interview will air, but I’ll let you know. And you can listen online!
If you need a gift for your 8+ year old daughter, I’m doing a giveaway for a Girl Gourmet Cupcake Maker at Frugal Mom Reviews.
If you’ve ever wanted to host a cookie exchange but didn’t know how, Partybluprints.com has released a FREE e-book, telling you exactly how to host the perfect cookie exchange party! I read through it, and there are some great ideas, so make sure to download a copy!
Finally, if you’re looking for gift ideas, Babble.com has released their 2008 Holiday Gift Guide. It includes gift ideas for children, parents, grandparents, under $20, and much more! If you have someone that’s hard to buy for, this might spark some ideas!
The Winner of the $50 Walmart Gift Card
There were almost 400 entries for the $50 Walmart gift card giveaway. Unfortunately there can only be one winner. I numbered the messages in my gmail Candy Cane folder (because Candy Cane was the secret phrase!), and used the inetger generator at random.org to pick a winning number. That number was 236. The message corresponding to that number was Brad Strum! Congratulations!
Brad has been contacted by email, and his information will be passed on to Walmart, so he can receive his gift card. Thanks for entering, everyone!
And have a wonderful weekend!

Thanks so much for letting everyone know about our Free e-book! We hope to spread some Holiday Spirit with this Freebie! Please note we are Partybluprints.com, no “E”.
Happy Thanksgiving! :) Dawn
Wow, post of the week! Thanks Lynnae, that pumpkin pie picture made me hungry!!!
@Dawn – Thanks for pointing that out. I fixed it.
@Gibble – The picture made me so hungry after I wrote the post, we actually had pumpkin pie last night. :)
Your daughter already has her gifts wrapped? Wow! I’m truly impressed.
Now, time to go check out GLBL Guy’s post. I’m interested… because I work from home. :-)
Post of the Week was a great pick!
Lots of good ideas there.
Do you know all those home projects you need to get done? The writing, and correspondence, the sewing, and that book I’m writing, or the scrapbooking gifts that need done? I am thinking that a LOT of the work at home ideas will also work well for me to help get some of those projects moving forward a little better. I think the dedicated time slots are a must… as I tend to waste time in the evenings flitting about and hitting a little of everything but rarely finishing anything!
And I always go home Friday night from work with a weekend project list…I tape it to my kitchen cupboard and manage to cross a lot of them off just by having that list in my face all weekend :)
Our family makes a similar mashed potato recipe. If you are pressed for time, it is just as good with boxed mash potato mix. You can make them festive and even tastier for Christmas by adding a small jar of diced pimento (drained) and some scallions. They taste even better and go with the Christmas color theme.
Yumm, turkey…
