I’m dying to make these ice cream ornaments from Walmart’s Holiday Entertainment Guide.
I did some frugal shopping this week, and of course I have to tell you all about my great deals! Last Saturday I saw an ad for an indoor yard sale, so I stopped by. It turned out the people were the owners of a storage unit business, and they were selling contents from unpaid units. I found a futon for the guest room for only $50 (which is GREAT for around here), and for an additional $10 I picked up some capris for me, sweats for my daughter, two new-looking pyrex casserole dishes, two brand new picture frames, and a new in package meat fork with thermometer. That last item was for my husband.
Then yesterday I finally found the freezer I’ve been debating getting. It’s an Electrolux 16 cubic foot upright. It doesn’t have automatic defrost, but the manual defrost models are more energy efficient anyway. And it’s only 6 years old (as opposed to the 20 year old models I’ve mostly seen on Craigslist). Total cost: $60. Yes, I love Craigslist!
Post of the Week
Wow, what a tough decision this week. I had 5 or 6 posts bookmarked, and I had to read them all a few times, before I finally settled on one. The post of the week is…..drumroll please…
~You Cannot Buy Your Way to Happiness by David of My Two Dollars~
I loved this post for it’s truthfulness. And David has been there. He bought stuff he didn’t need and ran up the credit card bill. But he learned. And now he’s telling you what he learned. Go read it.

Make sure you subscribe to Being Frugal to enter the drawing for the $50 Walmart gift card. Walmart has a lot of great items out this Christmas, so I’m sure whoever wins the GC will have a lot of fun shopping. I was looking through their Holiday Entertainment Guide, and there are a lot of great things out this Christmas. And as an aside, I really want to try those ice cream ornaments (pictured at the top of the post!). The recipe is in the guide.
Speaking of holidays, Frugal Upstate is hosting a Frugal Thanksgiving Mini Series next week. So head over there next week to share your best Thanksgiving recipes, crafts, and traditions and also get some new ideas from other Frugal Upstate readers!
And speaking of giveaways, I found a great one this week! I debated about posting it here, because I really want to win, but how can I keep a money-smart giveaway from you all? Glitterful Felt Stories is giving away a Money Smart Mom “No More Debt” kit! If that sounds like something you need, the giveaway is open until November 25, so there’s plenty of time to enter!
Finally, I don’t want to give anything away, but be looking for something from the M-Network in the next couple of weeks. We’ve been working hard on a super-secret project that I think you are going to love! That’s all I’m sayin’.
Have a great weekend!

Love craigslist too !
Something that not everyone knows…you can search a bit better on craigslist with the “-” operator.
For example, if you are looking for an electric oven, you can search for “oven -gas”, and all the gas ovens will be taken out of your search.
