Roundups

No Hands.jpg

“Look mom! No hands!”

This was supposed to be the Halloween edition, but as I was sitting down to write my roundup yesterday, my son came in crying.  His knee was a bloody mess.  Turns out he was practicing riding his bike with no hands, hit the fence, and ended up in the ditch.  So off to the doctor we went, so he could get glued back together.  He’s fine now, but I felt horrible for him yesterday.  He was afraid all his blood was going to come out.   Ah, the mind of a 6 year old!

News of Note

A few weeks ago I wrote about the deposit money we didn’t get back from our landlord when we moved.  I wrote the landlord a letter, and I finally heard back from him.  I think he was offended by my insistence that plastic caps falling off the faucets was normal wear and tear (and even stated that lawyers had agreed with him in the past). But in the end he agreed with me on the cleaning deposit, and refunded me even more than what I had asked for.  So though the tone of his letter wasn’t very nice, the resolution is to my satisfaction.  It never hurts to ask, right?

I’m doing a week (well, 4 days) of giveaways at Frugal Mom Reviews. The giveaways all end today, so go peruse the site to find out how to win.  Items to be given away include night vision goggles, an Oregon Coast DVD, note cards, and a Potty Training Kit.

Speaking of giveaways, Frugal Dad is giving away three Frugal Dad tote bags. His giveaway ends tomorrow, so leave a comment at Frugal Dad for a chance to win soon!

Congratulations to Gibble, who moved out to his new home in the mountains this week. He’s settling in and trying to unpack (I don’t envy him there).  But he and his family are living out their dream!

Madison DuPaix of My Dollar Plan was interviewed for Yahoo Finance! Congrats to Madison!

The Frugal Roundup

Here are some great posts from around the blogosphere this week.

Have a safe Halloween and a great weekend!  And don’t forget to switch those clocks back on Saturday night!

Great roundup and have a wonderful Halloween! Thanks for the mention.

  2. Sandy Hipple Says:

Oh I hope his scrapes don’t hurt the fun planned tonight.

  3. Marci Says:

Nice going on the refund - never hurts to try - and you wouldn’t have even gotten what you did if you hadn’t tried :)

Thanks for the weekend roundup - my weekend reading! And good luck with the kids tonight! Learning some of those 6 year old lessons is just as hard on Mom as on the kid :(

I did the dress-rehearsal last night of the grandkids’ outfits - just to make sure we’ve got all the accessories needed, and that I didn’t have to do anymore sewing on the fairy princess dress and cape :) What fun!

  4. Patrick Says:

When I was about the same age I thought it would be a great idea to see how far i could ride while doing a wheelie. Everything went along fine until the pot hole showed up. Obviously, the pothole won that battle and down I went! The knee was skinned to the bone and I have a neat scar to show for it. He’ll be bragging about his scar later. ;)

    Thanks for the mention. :)

  5. My Dollar Plan Says:

Oh poor guy! And Patrick is right… he’ll be bragging about that scar later!

  6. Pinyo Says:

I’m sorry to hear your son got hurt, and I am glad he’s alright. I hurt myself a few times when I was young too, but I don’t have any battle scar that I can brag about, just a clicky hip. Dang.

  7. ABCs of Investing Says:

I hope your son is ok - I’m sure a bit of candy will help with the healing! :)

  8. Sally Villarreal Says:

If you never hear from Chex Systems, it’s a good thing. I wish I’d never heard of them.

  9. Finally Frugal Says:

After a year of frugality, I’m $171 away from being credit card debt-free (now, on to the student loans. . . .) I couldn’t have done it without blogs like yours. I was the recipient of a ‘kreative blogger’ award, and have passed it on to you as well, with a post on my blog. Thanks for being an inspiration!

  10. Glglbuy Says:

Ouch is right! Glad to hear he’s ok! If I had a $1.00 for every injury my boys have had (and will have) I’d be rich!

Thanks for the mention and the congratulations! I lost the post with the pictures due to my server issues. Going to try to put another one together soon, so sorry about that.
