Roundups

Birthday Cake.jpg

Sam turned 6 this week.

It was Sam’s birthday this week, so I spent a lot of time preparing for his birthday party, which is tomorrow.  In addition, I volunteered in his classroom yesterday, and I’m off to see a performance by Liz’s class this morning.

Meanwhile, we continue to plug along with the house.  One of the bathrooms is completely finished, save for the linen closet door, which is still being sanded and painted.  The laminate floor is almost completely in, except for a couple of closets.  Yes, we’re getting there.

And yes, we’re having Sam’s birthday party here, despite my reservations about inviting a bunch of people over to my unfinished house.

News of Note

Be sure to stop by Frugal Mom Reviews next week.  I’m going to be reviewing some of the top toys of Christmas, starting Monday, and there will be some giveaways in the weeks leading up to Christmas. In addition to the toys, I have several other reviews (and giveaways) planned, too.  If you don’t want to miss anything, consider subscribing to Frugal Mom Reviews.

For those who want to see a little bit more about my trip to Arkansas, Jessica of Jessica Knows put together a great video montage of everything we saw and did.

The Frugal Roundup

I finally feel plugged back into the blogosphere, now that our move is a month behind us.  There were a lot of great articles this week, and here are a few of my faves.

Finally, if you’ve ever wondered how you can help members of our military, here is a tangible way.  I was heartbroken when I read the story of PFC Hunter Levine at ArmyHousehold6.  Tammy, the author of ArmyHousehold6 is putting out a call for cards to support PFC Levine.  Head over to her blog to find out how you can participate.

Have a wonderful weekend, and say a prayer for our military forces, who are in harm’s way on the other side of the world.

Happy Birthday Sam! I hope you have a wonderful celebration in your new house. ~~ RE the 401(k) statement, at my previous employer, the financial advisor handling the retirement accounts actually told us that during down times to not even open the envelopes, just stack them in the corner and ignore them. Works for me!

Enjoy the birthday, the company, and the first big event in your new home :)
Don’t you just love that ’settling in’ feeling… this is it, I don’t have to move again… ah, yes!

Hey - about that yard…. Just read a great book - Successful Small Food Gardens by Louise Riotte. Lots of edible landscaping stuff in it. I’m actually going to try to find a used copy of it for my library, now that I’ve borrowed it from the public library for the 6 wks allowed :) Good flower recipes in it also!

    Great roundup - thanks!
Looks like it was fun in Bentonville :)

Happy (belated) birthday Sam!! And thanks for the linkey love Lynnae. I’ve got one that just turned 7 a bit ago. This is a magic age. The other is 13, magic? Not so much.
