Are you frugal?

Time to add a little levity to Lynnae’s blog, especially as we deal with the uncertainty of the current financial and political state of our country.
Ever wonder if you qualify as a frugal person? If so, this list might clear things up for you. Pretty good things to aspire to, the planet would definitely be a better place if we all did just a few of these things. With no further ado here are the top 10 signs you might be a frugal person.
10. When your spouse leaves the water on while brushing their teeth, you reach over and turn it off.
9. Your garbage disposal has not been turned on since 2001, instead it all goes in the compost pile.
8. The manager of your local Starbucks asks you if you are new to the area.
7. You change your vehicle’s oil and oil filter yourself and recycle it.
6. You grow your own vegetables and fruit with your own compost. (see #2)
5. While on leisurely walks, you have been known to pick up not just recyclables, but litter as well.
4. You document, for future reference, the date you turn on your heater every winter for the first time. You then make a silent pact to beat that date next year.
3. Instead of just buying the most popular brand, you research what product is the best value and will last the longest.
2. You collect rain water in a 5 gallon bucket to water your indoor plants and cat. (Well…maybe not the cat, that is what toilets are for, among other things)
1. And the number one reason you might be a frugal person – You have never in your life purchased ketchup, mustard, or relish from the store. :)

Love the article Kyle–and your links just saved me $10. :) I needed to get something for my future grandbaby from baby’s R Us and found a 20% off coupon code on your site–very cool–it expires tommorrow so I’m just in time. :)
After reading this post, I have to say (sadly) that I’m apparently not frugal at all. :(
Wow, thanks for the coupon site, Rather-Be-Shopping.com is pretty awesome…I only really use retailmenot.com for finding coupons.
HAHAHAHA!!!
Ok, I’ve never done #10 but I always want to. I have to resist telling my husband how to brush his teeth. lol. I would say I’m about 40% frugal, based on this list.
Thanks everyone for the nice comments!
Mary, so glad my Babies R Us coupon saved you some cash before it expires. My motto is NO sense paying full price on ANYTHING!
These were great! I’m still not doing all of these, but I did have to laugh because I just spent time looking up homemade mustard recipes the other day!!
number 1 is definitely for cheap people, not frugal people. A frugal person will get name brand condiments but wait for a good sale on it, find a good coupon, and stockpile enough for a year lol.
I’m going to go with Amiyrah on this one … I thought I was frugal until #1 .. but I’m with the find a coupon and stockpile it. :-)
I had to laugh at #10 .. There are lots of radio ads right now that talk about California’s water supply and how not to be a California water waster….
My husband absolutely drives me nuts with the lights. Even if I’m in a room he thinks I don’t need the light on and will just turn it off.. I’m like “Hellllooooo?, I’m in here!” lol but he is awful with the water..
He will turn it on and just walk away so I’m always turning the water off and telling him he’s a California Water Waster.. It’s got to the point if I’m in the other room, I can just yell “California Water Waster!” and he will turn it off.. :)
Amiyrah, so do you just throw away the small condiments packages you get from some restaurants if you don’t use them? ;-)
If one does not eat out, there are no condiment packets, so one must coupon/sales/great buy them and stockpile :)
You know you’re frugal when you have buckets in the shower to catch the extra water for watering the plants/garden.
You know you’re frugal when you do most of your Christmas and birthday gift buying at garage sales, and get complimented on your great gives :)
You know you’re frugal when you build your new woodshed out of totally salvaged/scrounged/free lumber and beams from the local free fire wood pile at the dump. :) (Have you priced an 8×10 shed lately? With hardware, nails, hasp, and hinges, I spent about $110 total on my new shed! Custom made too! The local lumber yard is selling similar ones for $1999.00. :) BIG SMILE!
You know you’re frugal when you’re driving a 35 year old Datsun pickup that you hand brush painted hunter green and named Sweetpea :) (She hauls my free firewood for me)
You know you’re frugal when you attend a $1 bag sale and roll and stuff 10 fluffy adult bathrobes into the $1 bag and use the cleaned material to sew jammies and sweats for your grandkids :) (That’s 10 cents a robe, and one robe makes more than one top and jammie pants for one kid)
Ok – you get the picture :)
I love that your site is informative but has alot of personality! I guess I am a frugal gal! Im proud of that in our consummer driven society!
