Our church’s VBS had a science theme.

My kids went to our church’s Vacation Bible School this week, and I volunteered for three of the days.  My kids love VBS, and I love that they’re so excited to go.  But I have to tell you, it’s exhausting.  Looking back, I’m not sure I got much accomplished this week.  That’s OK, though.  Everyone needs a week like that once in a while.

Since it’s been a busy week, I don’t really have any big news.  So let’s get straight to the roundup!

The Frugal Roundup

Paidtwice gives you four strategies to fight the takeout urge at I’ve Paid for This Twice Already.  Heaven knows I needed to read that!

Gibble says sometimes it’s just better to pay somebody at Gather Little by Little.  I agree!  Especially when heights and wasps are involved!

Patrick wants to know which shift you prefer to work at Cash Money Life.  I prefer to set my own hours, but when I worked outside the home, I liked day shift the best.  My least favorite was swing shift.

Plonkee wants to know why there seem to be more dodgy salesmen than saleswomen at Plonkee Money.  Do you know?

The Dough Roller shares some tips for marketing your home based business online.  Marketing is important to the success of any business.

Mrs. Micah lets you know whether blogging is a source of passive income.  Blogging is definitely not a way to get rich quickly!

PT shows you 10 ways to simplify your finances at Prime Time Money.  In my book, simplifying is always good!

Jay MacDonald wrote a great article about 5 sneaky credit card tricks at CreditCards.com.  He even interviewed me, and I got to tell my horrific Citibank story.

Simplemom tells us about 6 fading homemaking skills and why it’s important to keep them alive.  I’m working on developing some of these skills in my own life.

Finally, Emily wrote about teaching your children to save money at Remodeling This Life.  It’s so important to teach your children about finances.  Nobody else is going to do it, and you don’t want them to learn the hard way.

Have a great weekend!  I think I’ll be sleeping off my busy week!

I remember going to VBS when I was a kid. That was always a fun time. :)

I’ve been working crazy hours this week as well, which prompted my article. I’ve worked just about everything imaginable and I prefer days above all. Of course, I’m typing this from work on a Saturday… LOL.

Thanks for the mention - the article by Miranda was great. I need to follow her advice :)

I volunteered at VBS back in high school, and yes, it was a busy time! Fun, too.
VBS at our church is just about to kick off for this year. They’re doing a jungle theme.

I just finished volunteering at VBS this week, too. I helped with snack two days a week but it was a lot of fun. My 5 year old met some new kids and even had a playdate with one of his new friends. I got to know some of the adults at the church and some of the youth group kids who were assisting at VBS. These kids are so great–pleasant, helpful, kind and good with kids. I even asked two of them to help me with some yardwork one afternoon and they were wonderful (although I had to teach them how to actually transplant plants from containers and into the ground!). And, as a bonus, they both babysit so they didn’t mind having my 5 year old hang around. And, when they were finished, they said I could pay whatever was comfortable to me (!) but I paid them $25 each for 2.5 hours of work each. I thought that was pretty fair and my front yard now looks great!
