Weekend Roundup: Busy Week Edition

by Lynnae on May 3, 2008 · 9 comments

This roundup is going to be short and to the point, without too much commentary from me.  Have you ever had one of those weeks where you feel like you’re two steps behind?  It’s been one of those weeks for me.  I’ve had a lot of non-blog stuff going on, and I’ve fallen a little bit behind on blogging and reading.  Not to mention the fact that I’m decluttering, and I have a pile of stuff sitting in my living room ready to sell at my yard sale next Friday (yes, I decided to have one).  I don’t do chaos well.  :)

A Couple of Prayer Requests

Pete’s wife is doing better, but she’s still in the hospital and still needs prayers.  Hopefully she’ll be home really soon.  But Pete could still use a few more guest posts to keep Bible Money Matters going while he tends to his wife.  If you’d like to write a post for Pete, please contact me.

Gibble found out this week that his mother has breast cancer.  Fortunately the doctor is optimistic about her prognosis.  Please keep her, the doctors, and Gibble’s family in your prayers.

Being Frugal News

The Smarty Pig gift card giveaway is still going on.  If you haven’t entered, just subscribe and contact me with the secret phrase the Being Frugal feed.  And just to clarify, anyone who is subscribed to Being Frugal can enter.  You don’t have to be a new subscriber.  But please only one entry per person.

The Being Frugal Roundup

There are a couple of things I need to highlight before I get to the down and dirty, no comments on my part, roundup.

If you’re as disorganized as I am, a home management notebook might be a good thing.  Fortunately, Simple Mom just finished a series on Home Management Notebooks, complete with printable forms!  I’ve read & bookmarked. Now I just have to print the forms and get started!

Also, you all know how I struggle with cooking and eating out.  Well, Kate from A Simple Walk contacted me to tell me about a series she (and two other bloggers) are running on their blogs.  3 Moms, 3 Kitchens, 31 days.  We’re only a few days into May, and I’m already amazed at her organization!  Kate feeds her family of 6 on $300 a month!  I subscribed to her blog, so I wouldn’t miss a moment!  I also subscribed to the other blogs that are a part of this project, FiveJs and The Happy Housewife.  This series is going to be good.  Very good.

Here are my other favorite articles this week:

I’m off to spend the morning at the soccer fields!  Have a wonderful weekend!

On NOT eating out: Have you seen/tried the Cook for a Day – Eat for a Month systems? Aka Frozen Assets…also the Lite and Easy version…. These cookbooks are Great!!! And the nice thing is you can use meals from any of your favorite cookbooks and family favorites and accomplish the same thing!
While I don’t cook enough for a month of frozen foods all at once, I do many of double and triple etc batches, and all the chicken meals at once, or the beef meals, etc…. As I take lunch to work, this has been great for me! When I cook up a bunch and put into lunch sized portions, I take them to my work freezer (there’s only 2 of us at work) and keep lunch there… By taking in a new batch each week, I have a variety to chose from and don’t have to eat the same thing every day… Just keep them labeled or stacked in separate piles, and choose from a different pile each day.

The plus is that I am eating good mostly homegrown foods each day! I also do this for family meals – always making at least a double batch – one (or more) for the freezer! This stocks up fast! It’s all the the book! And it works! Even for someone as disorganized as I am :)

Thanks again Lynnae for getting some posts up on my bible money matters while i’ve been at the hospital. Today we found out that my wife’s blood is where it needs to be, but that she is now having withdrawl symptoms from the pain medication she was on. The battle continues, and everyone’s prayers are still appreciated!

Thank you so much for the link Lynnae, and for all of your nice words! I have really enjoyed doing this series so far (as have Joy and Toni). I hope you continue to enjoy it.
