Christianity

The empty tomb

Jesus’ tomb…empty today.

Today is Easter Sunday, and I will be celebrating with my family.  I’m looking forward to church, spending the afternoon with my husband, children, and my mom.  We’ll do all the traditional stuff.  A celebratory breakfast at Sunday school, a traditional church service, lunch together, and an Easter Egg hunt for the kids.

But through it all, I want to remember the reason that we’re celebrating.  And there’s nothing that speaks to me like music.  A few days ago Sarah at Toddler World posted the lyrics to her favorite Easter hymn, and the words really touched me.  Each Sunday Gibble posts the lyrics from his favorite songs at Gather Little by Little, and I look forward to those posts every week, because for some reason music just reaches in and grabs my heart.

So today I’d like to share with you one of my favorite songs, an appropriate song for Easter Sunday.  As you read the lyrics, I hope the words speak to you as much as they speak to me.

Above all by Michael W. Smith

Above all powers
Above all kings
Above all nature
And all created things
Above all wisdom
And all the ways of man
You were here
Before the world began

Above all kingdoms
Above all thrones
Above all wonders
The world has ever known
Above all wealth
And treasures of the earth
There’s no way to measure
What You’re worth

Crucified
Laid behind a stone
You lived to die
Rejected and alone
Like a rose
Trampled on the ground
You took the fall
And thought of me
Above all

Like a rose
Trampled on the ground
You took the fall
And thought of me
Above all

Today, Easter Sunday, may we remember how much we are loved by the One who gave everything, so we might have life.

If you want to hear Above All, watch it on YouTube.  The video contains scenes from The Passion of the Christ, so it is graphic.  You might want to make sure your young children aren’t around while you watch.

Happy Easter. I like how open you are about your beliefs. Seems like today people are less likely to share how they feel about something so sacred. Thanks you.
