Midweek Roundup – Cold and Snow Edition

Snow Day

I took this picture from my back deck Monday morning.

It’s been an interesting week here.  We got about 6 inches of snow on Sunday.  For an area that normally doesn’t see more than an inch or two at a time, that really messed up traffic and the school schedule.  School was canceled on Monday, and traffic pretty much came to a standstill.

Fast forward to last night.  I came down with a nasty head cold and was looking forward to this morning, when both of my kids were in school.  My plan was to take a nap and sleep off the cold.  But you know what they say about the best laid plans….

Unfortunately last night the snow started to melt, and then the melted snow froze when more snow fell.  The roads were sheets of ice this morning.  My son’s preschool class was canceled right away.  Unfortunately the decision maker for my daughter’s school district is pretty hard core.  My daughter’s school district was the only district in the entire county that held school today.  They did start a couple of hours late.  But since I didn’t want to drive on the icy roads, I bundled up myself and the kids, and we braved the cold to walk to school.  So much for that morning nap.

Anyway, despite the lack of sleep, I’m feeling mostly back to myself this afternoon.  So it’s back to working on the blog.  A big thanks to Pinyo for filling in for me at a moment’s notice this morning.  Did you all enjoy the investing article?  I sure learned a lot!

On to the carnivals this week.  I participated in three and hosted one!

The Carnival of Debt Reduction was held at My Dollar Plan this week.  Madison included my post Your Past Influences Your Present.  Also make sure you read:

Mrs. Micah hosted the Festival of Frugality this week and included my post on frugal family fun as an editor’s pick!  Don’t miss:

Finally, I participated for the first time in the Make it From Scratch Carnival with my post Tightwad Tuesday:  Breakfast From ScratchGreen Style Mom did an excellent job hosting!  Some recipes I want to try are:

And if you missed it Tuesday, I hosted the Carnival of Money Stories right here at Being Frugal!  There were lots of great articles there, so be sure to look through it, if you haven’t already.

See you all back here tomorrow morning!  Hopefully both my cold and the snow will be gone!  :)

There really is no benefit to holding school in that manner. The students have a greater-than-usual problem focusing, and really don’t want to be there.

I hate how the educational system seems designed to make students despise school.

Glad to hear you are felling better too. My wife had to deal with the same thing. They didn’t call off school, but wouldn’t let the buses run. So they bundled up, walked there…and while they were walking they canceled school… :)

That’s beautiful! We never get snow here…it gets cold enough, but never when there is any precipitation around. I’ve been around snow before, but my family hasn’t, and I would like for them to see it at least a couple times. Hope you continue to feel better.

You are so brave to face walking in that weather with a cold! My hat’s off to you! (The picture was beautiful.)
