Are you hot, cold, or lukewarm?

Last Sunday I was sitting in church when our pastor read the following passage.

To the angel of the church in Laodicea write:

These are the words of the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the ruler of God’s creation. I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! So, because you are lukewarm — neither hot nor cold — I am about to spit you out of my mouth. You say, ‘I am rich; I have acquired wealth and do not need a thing.’ But you do not realize that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind, and naked. I counsel you to buy from me gold refined in the fire, so you can become rich; and white clothes to wear, so you can cover your shameful nakedness; and salve to put on your eyes, so you can see. Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest and repent. Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me. To him who overcomes, I will give the right to sit with me on my throne, just as I overcame and sat down with my Father on his throne. Revelation 3:14-21

I’ve been thinking on this passage all week. I pray that I will never become lukewarm. I’d rather be on fire for God or cold and refreshing to those who seek Him, but never indifferent. Lord, help me to always seek you first.

I want to be an overcomer. I want to sit with Jesus on his throne someday. That is real wealth…eternal wealth.

Are you spiritually wealthy? God wants you to be! Have a blessed Sunday!

Are you trying to write about being frugal or about the Christian faith?

@ Steve - In my life, being frugal and the Christian faith go hand in hand. The Christian faith is why I try to be frugal. I realize that not everyone believes the same as I do, and that’s fine, but at here at Being Frugal I write about my experiences. And the Christian faith is a huge part of my experience.

I went through a period of not posting on Sundays at all, but I decided to bring back my Sunday posts, which have always centered on my Christian faith.

Well I am glad to hear that. Honestly I really do love your post. Obviously money making is not everything. Yet, we can be living sacrafices as we are doing it correct?

As I college student I know how it is to be cold, hot, and lukewarm. So many temptations out in the world.

Have a good day! I will continue to read your blog so make it good lol.

@ Steve - We can absolutely be living sacrifices while making money. And I don’t think there’s anything wrong with trying to better your financial situation! I’m doing that myself. :)

I’ve also been hot, cold, and lukewarm, so I know where you’re coming from. The college years are tough in that regard.

I will do my best to make my blog good. Have a great Sunday! :)

Amen!! I want to be hot or cold too. It’s hard to always balance our concern for this earthly life without losing our focus on our glorious future! Well Said!

Glad to see some people still incorporate faith into their livelihoods. Joe Gibbs is an inspirational force to me partly because of this.
