Carnivals, a Festival, and Fireworks

FireworksMy mid-week carnival roundup last week worked out pretty well, so I’m going to do it again. Plus there are a few interesting posts out there that just couldn’t wait for the weekend to be highlighted.

The Carnivals

Plonkee Money hosted the Carnival of Personal Finance this week. She has a great photo quiz going along with the carnival, too. Sad to say, I only got one picture right. I need to brush up on my knowledge of England. I submitted my post on teaching my preschooler the value of a dollar, and it made the cut as a Plonkee pick! I also enjoyed 5 Things I Bought New and Wish I Hadn’t at the Rather-Be-Shopping Blog. It’s amazing how quickly the rush of buying something new wears off.

The Carnival of Debt Reduction was held at DebtFREE-Revolution. My take on Dave Ramsey’s “Gazelle Intensity” was included. I also recommend Don’ let those credit card commercials fool you at Gather Little by Little. I’m not real happy with the credit card industry right now, and I hate the way they play on your emotions to get you to go further into debt.

The Carnival of Money Stories was posted at Money Myth this week, and I submitted my post detailing the way I destroyed my credit cards.

The Festival

Frugal for Life hosted the Festival of Frugality this week. My post on “free” credit reports that aren’t really free was included. One of my favorite articles in the festival was Choosing Between Frugal Tradeoffs at I’ve Paid for This Twice Already.

The Fireworks

A storm is brewing between Randall of Credit Withdrawal and rocketc of Rocket Finance. It all started when Randall watched an episode of the Family Feud and posted about it. Rocketc didn’t agree with the consensus on the Family Feud and fired back. Not one to let a friendly attack go unanswered, Randall refuted rocketc’s points one by one and added his own. And that’s where things stand right now. Is the friendly debate over? Or will there be more? And what do you think? Be sure to weigh in!

Finally, Pinyo at Moolanomy has boldly stated that Dave Ramsey gives bad college savings advice! Could Dave Ramsey possibly be wrong? I’m a huge Dave fan, but even I question some of his advice, especially regarding gazelle intensity. And I’m not the only one glblguy says gazelle intensity is not for him, and Mrs. Micah isn’t going all out gazelle either.

As an aside, Ana from DebtFREE-Revolution (and a HUGE Dave Ramsey fan) pointed out that you can listen to him online, something I didn’t know before today. He’s on from 2-5 EST.

Enjoy the reading! And tomorrow morning I’ll be posting as part of a group project covering money matters for all ages. Madison at My Dollar Plan has covered things to think about when your children are babies, and Paidtwice has described some financial strategies for preschoolers. Tomorrow I’ll hit on the 6-12 age group, and we’ll go from there!

I hope to have one more tax post tomorrow. . . thanks for the link.

I look forward to your post about 6-12 year olds. My parents did a good job of financial teaching during that time period – high school is where I wish I had recieved some better advice.

Thanks for mentioning the CoDR, and for submitting. I guess I will just have to put up a post for you, Pinyo, Gibble, Mrs. Micah…y’all must not listen to his radio show every day :( Speaking of which, it’s time to fire up the internet radio, cuz it starts at 1 PM central time!

Where do you listen to Dave online? We don’t get him on the real radio here. I sometimes download his podcast.

I’ll email you the link because it could get sloppy if I try to put it in the comments. Yes I listen online because where I live there is some kind of signal bleed from the college campus station and another small station nearby.

:) I figured others would be interested in hearing it straight from the horse’s mouth rather than filtered through me all the time (because I am weird LOL)

Hey! You CAN listen to Dave online BUT only if your pay to use the mytotalmoneymakeover.com stuff. He provides a daily one-hour “highlights” podcast that you can subscribe to on iTunes and the like for free, but that’s all he’s giving away – otherwise you have to buy. Not for me.

Fortunately, I listen to him streaming during the workday here in Seattle from various radio stations across the country who syndicate his show. Being here in PST, the live show is from 11-2pm, which is perfect for my work schedule. I COULD listen to him from 3-6 here on a local station, but that’s just bad timing for me.

I use this site to find various streaming times: http://streamingradioguide.com.....showid=146

At the top of the page there’s a drop-down menu that allows you to select your time zone and it’ll do the adjustments for all the stations so you don’t have to figure out all the time zone stuff yourself. :D

I prefer the radion station that plays him LIVE in MO. Love it :)

Ah, I had no idea you had to pay. Thanks for the link to the streaming radio guide! Very helpful! And I’m on the west coast, too, so listening from 11-2 is perfect for me. I’ll have to check out that radio station in MO!

You’re welcome :D I’m sort of obsessed. But he’s so inspirational! And inspiration is what I need.

I correct myself… I listen to the station in GA: WYXC AM
AM 1270 Cartersville, GA. If you adjust the time zone at the top, then it’s the station about halfway through the 11AMs.

Inspiration is always good! I used to listen to the 1 hour podcast on my mp3 player when it was actually warm enough to take a walk outside. It’s nice to know I can listen to the whole 3 hours. I’ll look for the GA station!

Wow, almost forgot to thank you for the linkey here.
Still simmering on what to respond to Rocket with.
