One of my goals this year is to read through the New Testament. This week in my reading, I read through this familiar passage. I’m posting it in the New Living Translation, since that’s the translation I’m reading this year.
That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life—whether you have enough food and drink, or enough clothes to wear. Isn’t life more than food, and your body more than clothing?Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to him than they are?Can all your worries add a single moment to your life?
And why worry about your clothing? Look at the lilies of the field and how they grow. They don’t work or make their clothing, yet Solomon in all his glory was not dressed as beautifully as they are.And if God cares so wonderfully for wildflowers that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow, he will certainly care for you. Why do you have so little faith?
So don’t worry about these things, saying, ‘What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?’These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs.Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.
So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today. Matthew 6:25-34
As I look back over the past year, I am amazed at how God has provided for my family. I’m amazed at the things I’ve learned, the way my faith has grown, and the reminder that God cares about each of us as individuals.
As I look forward, I am excited for the new things on the horizon. I can celebrate the changes coming our way without fear, because I know the Lord will provide, and I don’t have to worry about the basics. I have an exciting update tomorrow, and I can’t wait to tell you all the ways God is moving in our lives.
For today, take joy in the knowledge that God cares for you. No matter where you’ve been or what you’ve done. He cares for you, as an individual; as his creation. God created you, and He doesn’t make mistakes. Have a blessed Sunday!

I love that passage from Matthew. I read it all of the time. It really helps me when I get bogged down with all of the little things that don’t really matter.
It’s interesting you would talk about this as I was just discussing this very thing with a friend. I said what separates humans from Animals is intelligence and what separates Christians from Non Christians is faith or trust in God. Sometimes when I feel anxious about our future plans I remind myself that God will open and close doors as he sees fit and often opens door in the most unusual ways. That’s how we wound up in Germany and then Spain. Both were completly unexpected. Where I think most Christians miss it is they expect God to provide a certain way (ie certain job or what ever) rather than just trusting God to provide.
What an inspiring post! I’ve been thinking along similar lines lately and have written a bit about it. I’ll be sharing that post on my blog tomorrow.
Isn’t it wonderful and comforting to know that God is concerned with us and all our needs and desires! I continue learning to put my trust in Him when things aren’t going smoothly.
I look forward to reading how God has provided for you and your family this past year!
One thing I love about your blog is that in spite of the tremendous adversity your family has dealt with this year, you are always counting your blessings.
The New Testament is a great place to get inspiration on how to live simply, with less value to things and more value to people.
Blessings,
Jen
You have been and continut to be a great example of how to live your life!
