Carnival of Financial Goals #2 - A Walk With Sam

Hi! I’m Sam, and I’m 5 years old. My mom writes this blog, but she decided to take the day off. Since I don’t go back to school until next week, mom said I could take you for a walk through my town and talk about financial goals. (Mom says I’m wise beyond my years)

I’m Sam

I’m warning you though. Between my serious moments, I like to be silly, and I love to talk! I’ve picked a few posts as Sam’s Selections, because I either thought they were well written, or very useful, or I was just super proud of the achievement the blogger will make in the next year. I’ve marked those posts with a *. Are you ready? Then let’s go!

Financial Goals

*Father Sez taught his children to set good goals for themselves at an early age. This isn’t a financial goal, but if 8 year old Ain can work so hard at setting and meeting a goal, the rest of us can do it too. Since I’m a kid giving this tour, I thought it would be nice to start out with a kid’s goal!

*Pinyo shares how he fared with his 2007 goals, as well as where he’d like to go in 2008, at Moolanomy. I like the charts! They’re really cool!

Head over to Gather Little by Little to see what glblguy plans to achieve in his next year of blogging. Make sure to vote in his sidebar poll too! But I didn’t think you could say a word without vowels…..What do I know though? I’m only 5!

Randall at Credit Withdrawal keeps his list of goals short, and more importantly, achievable. Mom says I could stand to take a lesson from you. She says I get really long winded, whatever that means.

The Little Dough Girl has getting organized way up on her list of financial goals. Mommy wants organization to be on my list of goals, too. I don’t think so.

Shana hopes to help her mom sort out her finances, among other things, at Smart Easy Money. I could help my mom with the finances. Let’s go to Toys R Us!

At Dollar Frugal, Brooke shares her New Years Resolutions. Why would you want to cut out sugar? Oh that’s right. Mom always says it’s bad for me.

Ashley starts with 3 financial resolutions and then adds two more at College of Cash. 3 + 2 = 5!

Mrs. Micah shares her goal for the first month of the new year. That would be January!

Steward presents The Job Dilemma - My Wife’s Potential Income. My mom says I have lots of potential. I hope that’s a good thing!

Dreary Road

Sam’s Wisdom: When you first look at your budget to set your financial goals, the road may look dreary. It may seem as if the sun will never shine again.

More Financial Goals

*Is it true that the Silicon Valley Blogger wants to fund a web startup and retire in 2008? Visit the Digerati Life to find out! Is that a trick question?

*Plonkee has a very good plan for meeting her 2008 career goal. I didn’t know cars had eers. Or is that ears? Never mind.

paidtwice presents Debt Reduction Goals for 2008. Did somebody say snowball?

Single Guy Money has some big plans for his finances in 2008. My mom would love the last line of this post.

Madison reflects on how her investments did last year at My Dollar Plan. Vests are scratchy.

I can tell Becky is a woman who plans ahead by reading her Financial Goals 2008. Mommy says it’s important to plan ahead for ear-egg-u-lar expenses.

The Prince of Thrift looks back at 2007 before making his 2008 goals. I try to look at my back, but my head doesn’t turn far enough.

Laura reviews 2007 and moves on to 2008 at Green Panda Treehouse. Pandas aren’t green, silly! They’re black and white!

Cutting her net worth in half? That’s Amanda’s goal at Me vs. Debt. Do you use a scissors or a saw?

Long Road

Sam’s Wisdom: After a while, you turn a corner. The road still looks long, but you can see the light peeking through the clouds.

And Even More Financial Goals

*Millionaire Mommy Next Door shares her goals, as well has how she plans to achieve them. Goal #5 is to travel with a toddler safely. Goooooood luck! Don’t you know kids conspire against their parents? Shhhhh. It’s a kid secret!

*Ana from DebtFREE-Revolution will indeed be debt-free (except for the mortgage) this year. I think my mom will be proud of her.

Patrick tells us where his net worth has been and where he thinks it should go at Cash Money Life. I like to tell people where to go, but most people don’t like taking directions from a 5 year old.

My Wealth Builder gets a running start on his New Year’s Resolutions. I love to run, but I’m not supposed to in the house.

Little Miss Moneybags has a good plan for 2008 with 2008 Financial Resolutions. Mom says it’s good to have a plan.

The Chef shares both financial and non-financial goals at Recipe for Financial Freedom. How does financial freedom taste?

Unequivocal shares personal goals at Unequivocal Notes. What does unequivocal mean?

RacerX shares his top 10 2008 financial goals at Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Money. I can count to infinity!

The Dividend Guy asks what will it take to have $300,000 by 2018? I’m guessing a whole lotta money!

What if you haven’t thought of any financial resolutions for the new year? Never fear. Kristine suggests some credit resolutions at Financial Tips for WAHMs. I like it when people do the work for me!

Tracks

Sam’s Wisdom: At times you may get really discouraged, but keep your focus. Stay on the track to meeting your goal, and I promise….you will get to your destination someday.

Tips for Making and Achieving Goals

*Ryan tells us how to create habits that will help us meet our goals at Millionaire Money Habits. Mom is always telling me I need to create good habits, but I don’t understand why. I like my room messy.

*Four Pillars wants to make sure you know the difference between goals and wishes. I know this one! A wish is what you make when you blow out the birthday candles. A goal is where you kick the soccer ball!

Dan Johnson from Credit Cards that Pay shows us how to set goals for savings and debt. What does a goal have to do with debt?

Blaine says frugality is America’s worst nightmare at BlainePower.com. I didn’t think my mom would like this article, but after she read it, I heard her say “Amen!” I guess I was wrong.

Are you passionate about what you do? Find out what Jacob has to say at Early Retirement Extreme. Early re-tire-ment….is that when the stock car goes to the pits to get their tire changed before the next scheduled pit stop?

Robert Phillips tells us why New Year’s resolutions are for losers at CyberCashology. Fortunately he also gives us a better alternative. I don’t like to lose. Don’t tell mom I told you, but she doesn’t like to lose either. Shhhhhh.

Wanda Grindstaff tells you how to Add Rocket Fuel to the Law of Attraction to meet your major goals. Anything that has to do with rocket fuel sounds like fun to me!

Tree

Sam’s Wisdom: Sometimes the weight of trying to meet your goals will seem heavy, like the snow on the tree branches. But stand tall. It will not defeat you.

More Tips for Achieving Your Goals

Betsy Teutsch presents Quirky Philanthropy: Turning Shoes into Scholarships. I like stories about people helping kids.

Alex gives us 20 ways to increase our financial success at Home Life Weekly. I think tip #2 is the most important. What do you think?

At Me, My Kid, and Life, Christine shares an example of how she helped a friend find her special talent. Do you know what yours is?

Dereck Coatney presents How To Make A Million Dollars In About 8 Years at The Best Stock Trading in the World. A million in 8 years? Do you think I could do that on my weekly allowance of $2.50?

Joshua Dorkin talks about Playing Dirty in a Buyers’ Market at Real Estate Investing For Real. I live in Oregon state. Where is reale state?

GWN Lifestyle tells us how to work once and buy forever. Sounds like a great plan to me!

Ralph Jean-Paul draws takes lessons learned from the animal kingdom to show you how to meet your goals. Are you Hunter, Scavenger, or Prey? Which one was Bambi? How about the Lion King?

You have to look back to move forward, says Mark Runta of Investing Lessons. I love running while I look backward! Except that once I got a big goose egg on my head from running into the wall.

Climb Any Mountain

Sam’s Wisdom: We’re almost home! When you’re in the home stretch, you might feel like you can accomplish anything, even climbing those mountains in the distance! I’ll bet they’re pretty high. But with enough knowledge, focus, and determination, you could climb them. The same is true for your financial goals. With enough knowledge, focus, and determination, you can meet even the hard goals.

And Even More Tips for Achieving Your Goals

*Changing the way you think is the first step to meeting your financial goals, according to Jeffrey A. Smith at YooperSmith.com. How do you do that?

*Raymond shows you four basic steps to jump start your financial future at Money Blue Book. I did a dance to Jingle Bells with four basic steps for my Christmas program!

The number one tool to meeting your goals is discipline, says Ed Rivis. Like a time out? I don’t think I want to meet any goals! Oh, not that kind of discipline. Ok then.

Are you looking to find the perfect job in 2008? Brip Blap shares his thoughts on the subject. I have the best job in the world……playing!

Wondering how to establish your investment goals? Dorian Wales tells you. Mommy tried to get me to wear a vest once. I didn’t like it. I’d rather wear my Favre jersey.

The Investor’s Journal presents How to Make a List of Rules to Invest By. There goes that vest talk again. I’m not having any of it!

Homo economicus presents Make More Money this New Year. Vague goals rarely work out. It’s always better to be specific. More money? Count me in! I want a criss-cross-crash track, a wii, a radio remote control car…..

We’re home! It’s time to celebrate! Let’s throw snowballs! Are these the same things that my mom talks about all the time…..you know….the big debt snowball?

Snowball

Thanks for walking and talking with me. Mom says I’ve been bouncing off the walls at home, whatever that means. Oh. Mom wanted to make sure I told you to submit your financial goal articles to the next Carnival of Financial Goals. It’s going to be on February 4 at Brip Blap.

Well, I have to go. I haven’t harassed my sister yet today, and I’m sure she misses me! Mom will be back tomorrow. And don’t get too rowdy in the comments, or I’ll have to tell on you. And if mom has to come put out any fires on her day off, she’ll be kind of grouchy. She might even put you in time out!

Adios! (I learned that at school).

Or has your Mum increased your allowance?

(And I think you are wise and right. I also like to spend all my money immediately. Don’t tell your mum, okay.)

Ain says thank you very much for listing her goals so high in your list. She thinks you are cool, but she prefers Brad Peet. (Do you know him?)

Thanks again, Sam and tell your Mum, I said, I’ll read your full post.
