Another Frugal Flop

For the last two weeks I’ve challenged myself to write down everything I spend. I must confess that I have yet to accomplish this. I am really undisciplined in this area!

Instead of repeating that challenge this week, I’m going to try something new. I’m going to shoot for having a couple of no-spend days. I’m not going to spend any money today, tomorrow, or Thursday. Normally I’d shoot for more than 3 days a week, but we’re going camping this weekend, so I know we’ll be spending some money on last minute supplies. We’ve budgeted for that though.

On a positive note, I’ve been doing pretty well with my grocery budget. I’ve been trying to eat out of my pantry and freezer, and I don’t think I’ve had to buy meat for two weeks now. I have, however, noticed that the price of milk is skyrocketing!

By October, I hope to be bringing you more specific information on my exact budget and how we’re doing toward meeting our goal of being debt free next June. Before I can do that, I need to have a good idea of what my husband’s paycheck at his new job will look like, so I can make up a reliable budget.

I can say that things aren’t looking great for paying off our debt by the middle of June 2008. When we first set that goal, we didn’t know my husband was going to be going through these recent job changes. In the last few months, we’ve had to use our savings to live on, meaning that we couldn’t use that money to pay our debts down.

Even if we don’t make our June goal, I still have high hopes that 2008 is the year we become debt free. I’m looking forward to having a reliable income, so we can actually budget to make this happen.

Good luck getting rid of your debt. Maybe if you collect all of your receipts and at a certain time every night you log your finances for the day? Just an idea :) Good luck!
