Buying Health Insurance

Well, my husband took the radio job. He’s starting to get excited about it. The only downside is insurance through his new job will run us $650 a month. And that’s not including dental insurance, which will run us an additional $72 a month.

I did some digging around on the internet after hearing this information. I found an agent in our state who seems very knowledgeable and straightforward. He gave us a couple of options that range from $340 a month to $498 a month. Hopefully we can get approved for insurance, so we don’t have to go with what Shannon’s new job offers. My migraines are usually a problem, but we’re going to give this a shot anyway.

It always pays to shop around. You might just save a few hundred dollars…a month.

Wow! Glad to hear your dilemma is over! I hope he enjoys the new job. I know how awful that insurance can be. Personally, from the bad experience that I have had, I would pay the extra to be on group insurance for a while, then you can qualify for COBRA if you husband changes jobs again.

Last time I had an issue with my health insurers, I had to ask my employer to intervene (after a year of fighting the bill). Only after my employer intervene did they stop threatening to send me to collections. Because Health insurers are out for profit, they often do everything possible to deny claims. That’s why belonging to a larger group is important.

beware of preexisiting condition clauses that exclude important issues you & your family may have.

I have always bought my own insurance because I’m self employed. It covers anything over $2500 for the year so that’s the most I’ll be on the hook in any year. It doesn’t cover doctor visits or anything routine, but for somebody like me it’s probably the best bet.

Make sure to ask questions and read the fine print in the new policies.
