Book Bargain!

This morning I took my kids down to our local school library. With the closing of our county libraries, our school library has been a lifesaver this summer. The school libraries generously opened their doors to cover the gap created by the closure of the county libraries.

After we had checked out our books, the school librarian pointed us to 4 boxes filled with books. “Take some. They’re free,” she said. We found some real treasures. We found Franklin, Clifford, Jay Jay, and Winnie the Pooh books for my son, and The Boxcar Children and Babysitters Club books for my daughter. We even picked up Shel Silverstein’s Falling Up.

Now that’s a bargain! Did I mention I love our school librarian?

Luckily, we still have libraries, although they are losing funding fast. I cannot imagine how people dont think they are important.

Great finds! I love library sales!

People around here do think they’re important. Unfortunately I think the powers that be thought the libraries would be a good bargaining chip to raise taxes, and it backfired. I’m sure the libraries will reopen at some point. The politicians just need a new plan. :)

I really hope they get this turned around for you. I can’t imagine going without our libraries, we are there two and three times each week. Hours and staffing changed awhile back when funding was cut and they now charge a yearly membership to out-of-state patrons. (we live just across the line) I don’t mind the $20, it’s still cheaper than a bookstore.
