Frugal Challenge: Write it Down

by Lynnae on August 6, 2007 · 2 comments

This week I am challenging myself to write down every penny I spend. It seems that almost all financial advisers say you should start with this step, but I have never done it. I’m too lazy.

So this week, I will be carrying a little notepad with me and writing everything down. I’ll update next week with how I did.

As far as last week’s challenge goes, I did great with the grocery shopping. I only spent $71 at the grocery store, leaving $29 to hopefully put towards our credit card debt. I say hopefully, because we may need that money to live on. I explained a little more about it here.

Although I know this is a powerful thing to do, I have never been able to do this. maybe one day…

I will bow down to you if you succeed in using your notebook on a daily basis to track expenses. I have tried to do this so many times, and either I forget the notebook at home or forget to put it in my bag or something like that, but my little experiment in writing down expenditures never works. Even when I was doing Weight Watchers I was never good at journaling. If you discover any tricks for making this a part of your daily habit, I’d love to know what those tricks are. Good luck.
