A Career that You’re Passionate About

How did you come across your current career? Have you known since college what you would do? Have your career plans evolved over time? Have you made a radical switch from where you started?
I’ve posted before that my husband was let go from his job. His new job isn’t going particularly well, and I’m tired of seeing him languish in jobs he doesn’t like. I picked up a couple of books for him: 48 Days to the Work You Love and What Color is Your Parachute. He immediately began reading 48 Days, and he’s been learning a lot. Being as I love to research and learn new things, I started flipping through What Color is Your Parachute.
I’ve found myself asking what I want to do with my life. Don’t get me wrong. I love being a stay at home mom, and I won’t change my career for at least another year. I’m thinking ahead to when my son is in school full time, though. What do I want to do?
I’m going to blame (or thank) Tricia at Blogging Away Debt for my soul searching. I’ve been pondering these issues ever since I read her post on Finding Something You Truly Love.
So do you work in a field that you’re passionate about? If you do, is it working out? If you don’t, do you have any regrets? How did you find what you’re passionate about? I guess I’m just having a hard time putting it all together. I love researching and learning new things, but somehow I don’t think being a professional student is going to pay the bills.
I would love to hear thoughts on the subject.
