Frugal Challenge of the Week

by Lynnae on July 23, 2007 · 1 comment

Last week my challenge was to list some stuff on eBay and use the proceeds to put toward debt. My auctions are still going, and as of this writing, they are up to $51. Not bad for some outgrown clothes!

This week I’m going to focus on our electric bill. I’ve just discovered the joy of line-drying clothes, though I’m sometimes (Ok, a lot of times) too lazy to make the effort. My challenge for myself this week is to not use the dryer at all. This should help the electric bill in a couple of ways. First, the dryer is an electricity hog. Second, the dryer is in our kitchen, which is right next to the living room. When we run the dryer, it heats up our living space. With temperatures at 90+ degrees right now, anything we can do to keep the house cooler is a bonus.

I’ll update next week as to how I did!

Ya might want to air fluff your towels and jeans with a fabric softener partial sheet…They get so hard and tough if you don’t. About fabric softener sheets – I find if I cut them all in thirds when I first open the box, they work just as well as a whole sheet :) At $1/box, I realize that is not a huge savings, but I do it anyway.
